Why Tories Rocked Quebec
"The French guys were always on a higher level, on a different level; don't ask me why, that's the way it was" - The Right Honourable Martin Brian Mulroney.
One plausible theory which explains why the CPC did so well in Quebec is that their media is less negatively predisposed towards the Conservatives. For the record, I think the english Canadian mainstream media is rancid, worse than in many developing nations. I suspect virtually all Canadians outside of Quebec just don't have a clue what's happening there, primarily due to the language barrier, which would explain why we were all so wrong in predicting the outcome.
Pas grande chose. The good news is that there is a good chunk of Canada with 75 seats where the media doesn't appear to be hostile to the Tories. Imagine if next election Harper were to take even half of those seats. What say you, old chap?
The best Canadian anti-statist work I've ever seen is "The Barbarian Invasions" by Denys Arcand. Which, of course, was funded by not only the Canadian government but also the French government. No matter; it is still a masterpiece, a damning indictiment of nihilsm and statism, and the first sequel ever to win the Best Foreign Language Film Award at the Oscars. I wonder how well this film resonated with the Quebec people but if it is any indication of le zeitgeist Québécois then this bodes well for the Tories.

Re the media: The attack dogs of the corporate conglomerates will soon be leaving their corporate kennels to savage Harper and assist the return of their beloved Liberals. Bet on it. I wrote the article below and believe it still holds true. Stephen G.
The snivelling, gibbering, liberal media
By Stephen Gray
The election campaign was barely started and the snivelling, gibbering, liberal media went into attack mode on Stephen Harper. One of these word manipulators asked Mr. Harper: “Do you love this country?” A banal and ridiculous question. Still, this type of nonsense is to be expected from these sleazy scribblers of media manipulation.
The next issue for some of these propagandists of the press was the aberration called “same-sex marriage.” Mr. Harper stated that if his party formed the next government there would be a free vote in Parliament on this issue. An honorable and democratic thing to do. But, the liberal media had other ideas on this. This abomination called “same-sex marriage was a done deal according to them. Why would Harper even bring it up, they asked? Some of them were practically cackling and going into convulsions of joy on TV at this “mistake.” This from so-called “investigative” journalists, who should know “gay marriage” was never in the Charter and is an invention and distortion of words. But, propaganda is the forte of these sodomy supporting scribblers and media manipulators. These are the people who have been in the forefront of pushing, promoting and supporting this nonsense called “same-sex marriage” and they continue to do so.
Meanwhile they give the Liberals a free ride. Millions of our tax dollars are still missing and the banality is asked: “Do you love this Country?” One would think they would be asking Paul Martin: “When are you going to get to the bottom of where the Taxpayers Dollars went? Mr. Martin you were the Finance Minister. If you do not know where millions of dollars went, does that not make you incompetent? And should you really be Prime Minister?” But, don’t hold your breath on these questions being asked. After all, Mr. Harper is “scary,” has a “hidden agenda,” and is “unsmiling,” according to these jokers of journalism. It really is pathetic watching the monopoly media manipulating the “news.”
The real NEWS in this country is: The people have been robbed. Political filth is passed in parliament. Criminals are allowed to vote. Why? Because they now have a “right” under the abominable Charter. Liberal flunkeys claim they are, “entitled to their entitlements” even though they quit their jobs. Non-elected liberal judges are “reading in” words not written in the Charter and imposing their abnormalities on the country. Cowardly politicians of liberal bent have allowed this to happen and anybody who questions this assault on democracy is ridiculed and reviled. Our children are taught that a dangerous and disease ridden lifestyle is “happy.” Over 100,000 babies are killed in their mothers wombs and this atrocity is called “choice.” Meanwhile parliament protects spotted owls, eagles, fish, baby seals, grizzly bears etc. Animals have more protection than human life and a twit of a “reporter” asks: “Do you love this country?” A more appropriate question would be: “Have our ruling elites gone mad?” But, our snivelling, gibbering liberal media seem to be incapable of rational thought.

Great comment Stephen Gray.
One problem with medias is that they became an industry bent on making money. They don't care about the truth. They have become prostitutes.
I was watching B. Derome yesterday evening interviewing new conservative MPs. He was rude and not smiling. Trying to get his arguments rather than informing. This is Radio-Cnada paid by public funds.
We need more newspapers and internet sites like Western Standard. In Montréal, only one newspaper is worthy reading: Le Devoir. But it is not good as it used to be under Claude Ryan.

Wonderful!, 22 July 2004
9/10
Author: ([email protected]) from Toronto, Canada
"Wonderful" is the only word I can think of to describe this movie. Denys Arcand skewers the Quebec Provincial Government, the Federal Government, Socialized Medicine, Labour Unions, and just about everything else, but gently and wittily. (Rather more funny since there are a lot of Canadian tax dollars financing this effort). The aging and dying student radicals of forty years ago gather to give it all one last heave-ho and the dialogue (so much better than the sub-tiles can convey) is smart and witty and sad. They poke wistful fun at their younger selves while fearing the end as it comes for them and for us all. Love is thick on the ground as is self-loathing and anger and lust. These are rich, educated, privileged people who are still not all that far removed from their student days, at least in their own minds. They are something that many people may have trouble comprehending: wealthy Socialists.
It isn't necessary to have seen Arcand's previous work with these characters,( `The Decline of the American Empire') to appreciate this movie, but then, why would anyone deny themselves that pleasure? >>>

Harper made inroads in Quebec because the separatist movement old gurd and direction has shifted to an "autonomist" movement and policy...Quebec can survive within Canada as long as it is autonomous over traditional constitutional jurisdictions....this is common ground with Harpers drive to get the federal government back into its constitutional jurisdictional constraints. There is enough common ground to interest the Quebec press.
I totally agree about the abysmal state of disinformation and isolation the coopted ROC MSM has Anglo Canada in. These trogladites are still trying to scare Canadian ( for their liberal masters) with the false presumption that Quebec is separatist minded and will produce a "Yes" referendum to sovereignty. Abasolute rubbish! and further these bone heads in the Ottawa co-opted MSM haven;t the slightest clue of the difference between constitutional autonomy and sovereignty....they still dangle the Quebec separatist strawman in english Canada's face even though they have a federalist provincial government seeking provincial autonomy within confederal constitutional guid lines and now 10 CPC MPs who buy into Harpers constitutional revival policy to include Quebec autonomy in confederation by recognizing the traditional inherent provincial autonomy of a legitimately applied constitutional jurisdictional policy.
I think honestly and accurately reporting on constitutional issues repulses the coopted statists in the GTA MSM as much as an honest assessment of Canada's non existant abortion laws.

I was pissed with Brian Mulroney in the early nintys like most Canadians. After 13 years of these perverted thieves and reading Neumans book about Brian I realized Mulroney was the greatest Prime minister of our time, his problem was worring what the slimes of the times said in their pathetic scribbles called editorials. The last 12 years in this country have been lost, high taxes and poor commodity prices in the farming sector have taken a lot of the farmers out of the game. I can only hope that the conservatives govern for the people like they will.

If one more Quebec lawyer shows up to lead Canada, I am personally going to build the Great Wall of Alberta.
