Gazette, Province Endorse Harper

Montreal Gazette editorial endorsing Stephen Harper and the Conservatives:

"The Liberals must go. Each new opinion poll suggests Canadians agree. By all the portents Canada is in line after Monday's election for a Conservative government led by Stephen Harper. This is a healthy prospect for Canada, and particularly for Quebec."

Vancouver Province editorial endorsing Stephen Harper and the Conservatives:

"Conservative Leader Stephen Harper, who will never be accused of too much style and not enough substance, assembled a strong team for the election of 2006. He charged out the gate and seized the agenda through a series of thoughtful and "very Canadian" policy initiatives.

Consider the following: Improve child care, crack down on crime, increase defence spending, reduce waiting times in hospitals, implement public-transit tax breaks… the list goes on and on."

As a subscriber I have been a harsh critic of the London Free Press for their Editorial support of the corrupt Liberal government in the 2004 election.
I am somewhat surprised but pleased to have them support Stephen Harper and the Conservatives this time.
Their editorial is summed up by this last paragraph in the Editorial as follows,

"Our hope for Harper and his party is that they have now discovered and embraced the brand of conservatism that will unite, rather than divide. We hope that they have successfully separated the issues and policies that will build and strengthen Canada from those that will send the nation into a period of regional quarreling, wrangling over moral and ethical issues, and unproductive constitutional bickering. Most of all, we look forward to reforms that will ensure cleaner and more transparent government.
Liberals warnings that Canadians should fear Harper should be cast aside Monday and replaced by the courage to elect him".

I say "Amen" to that.

Editorialy they may have endorsed Harper, but journalisticaly The Province is and has been stumping for the NDP in this election.

So it looks like they are on the Conservative minority/NDP opposition bandwagon.

Which is fantastic, coming from this lefty/labor tabloid.
