Woo'd away

Former B.C. Human Rights czarina Mary Woo Sims has announced she is running for Coquitlam city council, thus bringing to a premature end the series of weekly debates in which we have been engaged on the pages of the Tri-City News for the past several weeks.

Sims tells me her progressive friends were pleasantly surprised to discover, through her debate pieces, that she was more than just a one-trick equity/rights pony, and that she actually has knowlege of, and opinions on a full range of issues. They thus urged her to run for council.

Yikes! I hope this doesn't mean that the many conversations we had, prior to writing our pieces, helped Sims refine her views and, thus, made her into a better candidate.  If so, I might then be partially responsible for having launched Sims back into public life. It's an achievement I wouldn't want to put on my c.v.

Anyway, News editor Richard Dal Monte promises to find me a new sparring partner as soon as possible to replace Sims. Until then, I've offered to write both sides of a debate on an issue on which, I have to admit, I am currently conflicted -- the legalization of marijuana.

Parrish says she is going to run for Mayor after she gets her pension figures from the Librano$$$$

Jack Layton & wife were Toronto City councillors and so on.

Why local politics? It's the level of government closest to the everyday lives of Canadians. The better to seduce Jane & John Doe with the siren song of socialism/communism; to reach Jane & John Doe's pocketbooks/cheque books; higher taxes = control of the municipal agendas.
Socialists are both lazy & greedy; it's your money they want>>>>>>> more money $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ for their insatiable lust to steal your money.
Down with socialism.

Clever as the serpent, these socialists are; deadly, with their forked tongues.
Down with socialism.

What makes marijuana different than all other prohibited drugs, apart from it's inarguably less deleterious effect, is that it's a simple plant which grows out of the ground in it's final consumable form. The other, far more harmful illegal drugs, such as cocaine, heroin, and methamphetamine -- which is made from a dog's breakfast of toxic crap -- all require extensive processing to reach the final concentrated product, to say nothing of the fact that all of them, unlike marijuana, can easily be taken in fatal or permanently harmful dosages, and all of them are staggeringly addictive, with a high cost to society.

The only people who benefit from marijuana's illegality are organized criminals, who make untold billions of un-taxed dollars each year from it. It would be far more productive for law enforcement to focus on drugs like methamphetamines, crack and heroin, which are an absolute scourge on society.
