Beyond brilliant, it is also honest.

If any lefty, or righty for that matter has a problem with it they can always donate it (imagine that) to a charity or cause of their choice.

Just do it, put the power to fund causes back in the hands of the wage-earner.

A stunt similar to this backfired on John Hamm's Tory government in NS in 2003. Hamm cooked up a "tax rebate" to all Nova Scotia taxpayers in the amount of $155, with the cheques beings sent out just prior to the provincial election. It was really brazen if you ask me. He was ripped in the media and the electorate reduced him to minority status (I was ineligible to vote as I had just moved to NS a couple months prior, but I probably would've voted against him for it as well).

He's been on much better behaviour since and would probably win a majority now.

That's why you annouce during the campaign. It's simply a campaign promise then and open for the voters to decide whether to election you or not.

One Thousand dollars. Imagine. Ten one hundred dollar bills. Any Canadian in his or her right mind would go for it. All Canadians want is to be given goodies from government. It is what Canada is all about. Dependency and subservience. It is the society Trudeu, Chretien and Mulroney have created. It is what we are. Never doubt it. Unless they can play the game and give Canadians the goodies they feel they deserve, the conservatives will never win. Sad - yes. Reality - yes also.

Remember the 'fuel rebate' the Liberals gave the taxpayers (lower income people - but they vote too esp. if there is real cash in casting a vote) in 2003. I know many people who cheered for the Libs win just because a cheque was 'in the mail!'
