Kerry filmed re-creations of his exploits in 'Nam?
Kerry would revisit ambush locations for reenacting combat scenes where he would portray the hero, catching it all on film. Kerry would take movies of himself walking around in combat gear, sometimes dressed as an infantryman walking resolutely through the terrain. He even filmed mock interviews of himself narrating his exploits. A joke circulated among Swiftees was that Kerry left Vietnam early not because he received three Purple Hearts, but because he had recorded enough film of himself to take home for his planned political campaigns."
Uh huh. I'm being serious now, folks: isn't this a sign of mental illness? Really. Your thoughts...

Mental illness? Perhaps. Certainly an unhealthy degree of personal ambition. I assume that Kerry's Silver Star and Bronze Star were well deserved, but if he was just saving his comrades' lives in his down time between takes....
P.S. Didn't Joe McCarthy (forgive me if that name triggers some variant of Godwin's Law) set a record for rounds fired in one day in order to get his name in the papers? Kerry sounds positively restrained by comparison.

PS, I'm suddenly reminded of Rupert Pupkin in The King of Comedy, aren't you?

General Patton used to make notes "to future biographers" assuming that he was destined for greatness.
Kerry sounds like someone who has read some books about agressive "goal setting" :)
Or a nut job.

I agree with Charles, that Kerry has an "unhealthy degree of personal ambition".
A dirty little secret in VietNam was that it was not unknown for someone to get into a Huey, fly over a hot zone on the way to their duty station, and then go put themselves in for a Bronze Star. This behavior was of course not restricted to VietNam, but has existed to some degree in a number of campaigns.
The doctor who examined Kerry's wound in respect to the last Purple Heart said that he was frankly surprised that Kerry had sought medical attention for the metal splinter.
I assure you that the overwhelming number of VietNam veterans in the United States are contemptuous of Kerry. After all, he betrayed us in his Congressional testimony 30 years ago by charging us all with unsubstantiated atrocities.
He contributed to abusive treatment that we all received for many years. Being a VietNam vet has not been popular.
Now, after winning his fame by horrible accusations against us, he pops up running for president on the basis of being a champion of the VietNam war.

Can you picture this: "hey guys, lets shoot up that village again!, I've got my camera!"
