Barbarians at the Gates
It looks like they're really getting scared now. The Liberals are assembling their assorted clientage for a final charge, letting it be known that the well-feathered nest they've made for one another is at risk.
First the cities - no longer merely concerning themselves with potholes and garbage collection when the handouts from the Liberal gravy train are at risk - do their duty and lob a hand grenade at the Conservatives:
Vancouver Mayor Larry Campbell has warned his counterparts in Canada's largest cities that "the barbarians at the gate" and a federal Conservative election victory spell big trouble for their hopes of a new deal for municipalities. This, naturally, is why the federal government should not be a municipal tax collector in the first place. It converts one level of government into a lobby group for another, which is what the Liberals like about it. The more dependent on their gavy train the scarier life is without them."It's time for us as mayors to step up and make a stand here," Campbell told a closed-door meeting of 22 mayors attending the National Forum on Economic Growth of the Big Cities in Canada, hosted by Montreal Mayor Gerald Tremblay.
And then the media industry weighs in:
A Conservative government would radically reduce the amount of regulation of the television industry and seek a deal with the United States to allow American satellite TV services unfettered access to Canada, according to the party's candidate handbook. [...]We can now count on the assortment of artists to pause from producing their Cancon multicult claptrap few people watch and turn their hand to producing scaremongering screeds for their Liberal paymasters. Our way of life doesn't depend on it, but in fact theirs does. The Tory policy would be a "major setback" for the country, warned Helene Chalifour Scherrer, the Heritage Minister, in an interview.
"Canadians would not even recognize themselves when they turn on the TV or the radio," she said. "It would mean the end of everything we have worked so hard for over the years."
Expect the hyteria to reach a fevered pitch if the polls contine to worsen and it becomes clear their pampered, protected lives on the dole may circle the drain with the Liberals.

Funny: the prospect of never hearing Sunglasses At Night on the radio, ever again, sounds pretty cool to me!

"Barbarians at the gate"? So what, everyone who isn't an urban sophist is the modern equivalent of the Huns? I live in the suburbs, I plan to move into the city, and I'm still offended.

"... the assortment of artists to ... turn their hand to producing scaremongering screeds for their Liberal paymasters."
And this is a bad thing? A bunch of "artists" so bad they can only exist by sucking the government tit are now going propagandize for the Liberals. Sa-weet. What you have to worry about is if someone with the least bit of talent jumps on the Libs band-wagon.
