Why are the Israelis in Gaza?

This slide show -- from the BBC of all places -- helps explain it.

Amazing! Maybe next we'll hear a balanced report by Neil Macdonald on medical treatment received by Arabs at Hadassah Ein Kerem and other hospitals. I won't hold my breath, though.

I began to fear an anti-Tzahal rant at Photo 5: "The photographer says the questioning is not aggressive and he saw no violence being used, but the Palestinians are very frightened for themselves and for their home." However, the Beeb redeemed itself at Photo 7: "The Palestinians with a tunnel entrance in their home are not necessarily militants or criminals. They may have come under pressure to allow the building of a tunnel."

Also at Photo 7: "Originally they [the tunnels] would probably have been used by organised criminals to smuggle drugs and other contraband, as well as arms." How does their present use differ materially? Are Fatah and Hamas not smuggling drugs (probably because the tunnels can only deliver the amount of explosives needed to make their Kasam rockets)? Or are those groups simply not "organised"?

So Palestinians are smuggling weapons to resist Israel's occupation of Gaza. And the justification for being in Gaza is.......... Oh right, the small group of religious fundamentalists who control a third of the land in one of the mast densely populated ares of earth. Common sense my friends, common sense.
