It's good eatin' ?!?

Kelly Jane Torrance blogs on a growing trend in U.S. cuisine--the tendency to eat things like hog jowls and such, as exemplified by the book The Whole Beast.

I'm an omnivore, but I am not completely adventurous when it comes to food. When my farm raised stepdad brought home, and served, beef tongue and beef hearts, I was reduced to saying "What *is* this?" Tasted okay, though.

Eeeeyaargh. While the heart tastes great, de-veining it is a pain in the arse. That's why I like hamburger - no fuss, no muss.

Pig's feet are tasty if marinated in vinegar and hot peppers; they taste like... Vinegar and hot peppers; if you're lucky you may get a bit of pork, but not much...

Come to Alberta, and try some prairie oysters (bull's testicles). Tastes like chicken, more or less.
