WS Radio: Brad Rodu interview
Dr. Brad Rodu, professor of oncology at the University of Louisville, will be our interview subject today. Dr. Rodu is very controversial for suggesting that smokeless tobacco--like Swedish Snus--is 98 per cent safer than smoking cigarettes. Because of this, Dr. Rodu recommends that smokers switch to smokeless, that government health authorities switch from their current policies of tobacco elimination to harm reduction, and has angered the anti-tobacco community in the process.
We'll also be discussing jury nullification, the difference between "the ethics of conviction" and the "ethics of responsibility," and recent news items of interest. Of course, we'll go ahead and mock Earth Hour mercilessly. As always, Gerry Nicholls will join us to talk about Canada in the second hour of the program.

WS Radio: Global Warming audio
Here is the full show with last week's guests Roy Spencer, Todd Albert, and our regular Canadian commentator, Gerry Nicholls. Things got a little heated in the studio with Roy and Todd debating the merits of global warming, and what a reasonable public policy for climate change might look like. All this, just in time for Earth Hour.

Today, our phone-in guest will be Scott Reid, Member of Parliament for Lanark-Frontenac-Lennox and Addington. Scott has been a strong supporter of private property rights in Canada, and we'll talk with him about property rules in Canada, and how they differ with the United States.
UPDATE: We will also have Fred McMahon, Director of the Centre for Trade and
Globalization Studies at the Fraser Institute, joining us at the top of the second hour to discuss economic freedom. He manages the annual Economic Freedom of the World report, a report we anticipate eagerly every year here at Political Animals.

WS Radio: Jacob Sullum and Marc Emery
Listen live (QuickTime), Mondays, 4 - 6 p.m. EST
"Political Animals"--the flagship radio show of Western Standard radio--is a weekly political talk show on 88.1 WBGUFM hosted by Jay Lafayette, Peter Jaworski, and Terrence Watson.
Today, our phone-in guest will be Jacob Sullum, senior editor of Reason Magazine, syndicated columnist,
and author of "Saying Yes: In Defense of Drug Use," as well as "For Your Own Good: The Anti-Smoking Crusade and the Tyranny of Public Health." We'll ask Jacob about our own "Prince of Pot," and about public perceptions of drug use and whether or not those perceptions align with reality. If we can keep him on the phone long enough, we'll also ask him about smoking and the nanny statists who would stomp it out.
Also on the ticket is Marc Emery. His plea bargain with the U.S. government has hit a snag--the Canadian legal system is telling him that they can't keep him in a Canadian prison for five years (as Emery requested) since that penalty is too harsh according to Canadian standards. Provided Marc doesn't have legal issues to take care of, he'll come on in the second hour to give us an update on his case.
Gerry Nicholls, one of the best political pundits in Canada, will, as always, join us at the top of the first hour to talk about Canadian politics.

"Political Animals"--the flagship radio show of Western Standard radio--is a weekly political talk show on 88.1 WBGUFM hosted by Jay Lafayette, Peter Jaworski, and Terrence Watson.
Today, our phone-in guest will be Matt Welch, editor-in-chief of Reason Magazine, and author of "McCain: The Myth of a Maverick." Matt will give us his insights on the presidential primaries, especially on John McCain (we suspect he's not his biggest fan, if the title of his book is any indication).
Joining us in the studio will be John Lewis, visiting scholar at the Social
Philosophy and Policy Center and associate professor of history at Ashland University, who is under contract with Princeton University Press to write a book called "Nothing less than Victory: Military offense and the lessons of history from the Greco-Persian wars to World War II." John will join us for the full two hours, so he'll join in on the presidential discussions at the top of hour one. In hour two, we'll ask him about his forthcoming book, and about the philosophy of Ayn Rand (John is an Ayn Rand scholar).
