Greens commemorate fall of the Berlin Wall

If Elizabeth May had been put in charge of dismantling the Berlin Wall, we’d still be waiting for the Environmental Impact Statement.

Thank goodness for angry anti-government mobs.

Here’s what the Greens had to say on the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall, for what it’s worth:

Monday marks the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall and the end of the Cold War.  On this day, the Green Party celebrates the end of conflict and the principle of openness.  "Today, we can remind ourselves that dramatic change can happen. All things are possible," said Green Leader Elizabeth May.

As we remember the fall of the Berlin Wall, we can also remember that the wall came down largely due to grass roots democratic organization and bottom-up activism.  Determination, courage, strong convictions and a passionate belief in freedom are what led to this world-changing event.  As we struggle with the challenges of today, Canadians can remember the Berlin Wall as a symbol of how important democracy and grassroots empowerment are in the modern world.

Rumour has it NDP leader Jack Layton has been purchasing pieces of the Wall on eBay with the hopes of one day seeing this communist edifice rebuilt.

"Rumour has it NDP leader Jack Layton has been purchasing pieces of the Wall on e-bay with the hopes of one day seeing this communist edifice rebuilt."

With the money of longtime NDP supporter and financier Marc Emery, it is also rumoured.

I'm happy to see you criticize the left, for once, however disingenuous as it may be, but you'll have to do better if you want to shake your well deserved reputation as a radical authoritarian statist, Matthew.

Oh, and don't let your comrades hear you say "thank goodness". They hate goodness.

Compare West to East Germany and their approaches to environmental protection. Communism was no friend to the earth.

Excuse me for pointing out that it should be waiting for the Environmental Impact Statement and not waiting on. One waits on customers and tables.

Actually her comments on this topic are not out of line. They show some common sense and intelligence. Now if only she could do the same with other topics.

ZP, where did she claim that communism was a friend to the earth?

Alain: while I didnt comment on May specifically, you are correct. She didn't say anything like that. Indeed, May is an ally of the capitalist powers in the Liebral/NDP Party. She made a deal with them in the 2006 election to run unopposed in one riding. In doing so, she compromised any ethical claim to be an environmentalist. The party she sold herself and the Green Party to also exempted Ontario from the earth-saving Kyoto Accord. For shame on all accounts. She and the Greens are basically irrelevant now.

20 years later and the East is back in vogue :) http://fashionableearth.org/blog/2009/11/09/20-jahre/

The current environmental movement is made up largely of Reds-turned-Green, example, its repeated use of Communist modus operandi of attempting to silent those who dare question its holy grail of global warming, even when the latter use recent climate data to disprove crooked hockey sticks and manipulated IPCC models.

I notice that the "Chosen One" didn't bother to go to Berlin. Must be a basketball game on TV that he needs to watch.

It was good that the Berlin wall came down – However it is clear that the methods of Stalin and coleagues are being used to manipulate greater masses of people with similar aims and more subtle ways.
