Caledonia Militia looking for a few good men

Western Standard readers first learned of the troubles in Caledonia from columnist Ric Dolphin in July 2007.

Dolphin wrote:

Today, the Six Nations activists in the Caledonia area west of Niagara Falls, together with that tribe of Mohawks up near Belleville, Ont., who blocked the CN mainline for 30 hours in April, continue to agitate and occupy and generally prevent law-abiding residents from going about their business. McGuinty is keeping the OPP in check, lest another Ipperwash erupt. The premier's line has been that the disputes are not Ontario's concern, and that Indian and Northern Affairs Canada and Minister Prentice ought to clean things up.

Almost two years later and the OPP continue to show restraint toward the occupying natives, a situation non-aboriginal Caledonia residents are calling two-tier justice. Caledonia resident Doug Fleming has had enough and today announced he is forming the Caledonia Militia.

In a statement for the media, Fleming writes:

Enough is enough! Due to the ongoing reality that the OPP refuses to enforce the Criminal Code with regards to people's property rights I am forming the Caledonia Militia to ensure that the criminal code is upheld in Haldimand County.

Section 38 - 42 of the Criminal Code outlines the rights of all citizens to lawfully protect their property against trespassers and against those who would steal private property. Parliament has seen fit to allow citizens the right to use reasonable force to remove trespassers from private property.

The OPP has threatened the legal owners of properties stating they will be arrested instead of the trespassers. Superior courts have already ruled that such arrests by the OPP would be illegal. The Cayuga injunction ruling stated "the police have no right to prevent the plaintiffs from acting within their rights under Section 41 of the Criminal Code. Their warning to the plaintiffs that they would arrest anyone who is involved in a physical confrontation, regardless of the circumstances, is an abuse of the power conferred on them (the OPP) by Section 31 of the Criminal Code".

Any member of the public who wishes to join the Caledonia Militia to aid in the enforcement of the Criminal Code is welcome to attend an information session at Cayuga Lion's Hall, Tuesday, June 23rd at 7 P.M. Hotheads need not apply. We're opposing terrorism, not engaging in it. We will follow established procedures on the use of reasonable force to remove illegal trespassers. Trespassers will be arrested and turned over to the OPP for the prosecution of their offences.

Your community needs you.

LUNATIC FRINGE:
Dedicated to the wannabe 'caledonia militia'

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=muBDKmBG59I&feature=channel_page

See the ijits in all their glory ... McHale, Parkinson and Vandermaas and their white supremacist associates. Dr. Upjohn stays in the shadows and cheers them on, but won't be seen with them publicly.

Boy, can Caledonia do without them!

Then there's hothead Dave Hartless, McHale's dupe Merlyn Kinrade, Dougie and Randy Fleming and perhaps a few other attention-seekers.

Not exactly a crew to admire. LOL

Editorial from the VERY right-wing Caledonia newspaper:

"Militia a bad idea"

When word came out last week that a meeting was to be held to form something called the Caledonia militia, the first thing that leapt to mind was that this was the last thing anyone needed.

Militias, in their contemporary connotation, hold out visions of the people squirreled away in the Montana Mountains who believe in black helicopters, global conspiracies and worse.

The second thing was that it really is time for the adults to step forward. Marches, demonstrations and other forms of street theatre have accomplished nothing.

They divert resources, divert attention and are an impediment to resolving the situation that has gripped Caledonia.

Making things much, much worse is that the demonstrations and protests are based on unfounded rumours designed to stir up people who are ready to be stirred up.

This was really driven home by OPP Inspector Dave McLean's presentation to Haldimand County council Monday.

While he didn't use the word, much of the Inspector's presentation concerned disinformation and its spread.

Unlike misinformation, which is something that is, perhaps, unintentionally incorrect, disinformation is intentional. Disinformation is insidious. It is odious. It is designed to deceive and to lead to actions that few would normally even consider.

All too often disinformation has the sole goal of making a situation worse and making a peaceful, rational solution all but impossible.

Today the potential for disinformation to create havoc is worse than ever because of the speed and anonymity of modern communications technology. A rumour can literally cross the continent and be around the world in seconds. It can also come from an unknown source because of the rampant use of pseudonyms and virtually untraceable internet connections.

Because it is written, it is often given more credence than something that might have been whispered in a bar.

McLean, speaking directly to council and the cable television cameras, said the rumors being cited in the calls to form a militia are false. The rumor is that the man who allowed a smokeshop to be set up on his land was intimidated.

McLean said the OPP has spoken to the man at length and were told that it was a personal decision. When he was informed of some of the possible consequences of that decision the man told the OPP that he understood and wanted to deal with the situation himself. The man retained private counsel and received advice.

Another incident occurred back in May with the flag raising. McLean said the people involved met with the OPP and said they wanted to raise one flag. The OPP agreed.

Then they wanted to raise three flags. Again, the OPP agreed. The number was then raised to nine flags.

The conclusion is obvious – May 24 wasn't about flags. It was about stirring things up for those who are ready to be stirred up.

This latest episode may be just more of that. If so, it is unhelpful to the community. It drives away potential visitors, it damages the economy, it puts people on edge, it wastes public resources.

And words have weight and the word "militia" carries a great deal of weight. If you want to scare people, and scare people away, there are few words that carry a stronger message.

The last thing that is needed up here is something called a militia. It is an American transplant that grows on disinformation and is fertilized by paranoia.

If you want to see the end game of disinformation and the cost of allowing it to go unchallenged you should read last Sunday's column by Frank Rich in the New York Times. It is available on the Times website.

Suffice it to say that Rich concludes that there are those who want to stir things up for their own political, personal and, in a few cases, commercial ends. The results, as Rich writes, are predictably bad.

McLean called the rumors "fabrications and hogwash." They are worse than that.

McLean's words carry weight because he spoke publicly, is in a position of responsibility and is accountable. Those starting, spreading and acting on the rumors should be held to the same standard.

Caledonia is not going to be filled anarchy, on the personal level native relations with the town and the reserve is great I live here and spend a lot of time on the res.

I think they should just build a park on the DCE or a joint recreation center and maybe a park why not.

the protest doesn't really matter i don't think a lot of people acre about it, and it is a protest; you beat those by not caring. That smoke shack on the mans property is absolutely ridiculous he should rent a bulldozer

man this guy kills me!!!!!! Hey there "traveller" you know what fair is this is what fair is..

Put a twelve foot wall around the sn res, cut our hydro, gas lines, roads out and heres a big one ready ... no more welfare government money stops!! Tell the and I use the term "Native" very loosely because as far as "Native" goes I am a 14th gen "Native CANADIAN" so tell the lawfull want to work and be a part of CANADA "Natives" to get out and live with us and the rest get sealed up in there .... here it is.. TO LIVE LIKE THERE FORE FATHER'S LIVE.. NO GUNS NO MONEY NO REAL MEDICINE NO HOSPITALS NO FIRE DEPARTMENT NO ....LOL ALCOHOL LMFAO... NO SCHOOLS NO NOTHING... GO ON

the second CANADIAN'S get pissed off enough about all this shyt the goverment will be rolling in with the army and pulling there tax free crap off the table. that will be a great day..

When we all get treated equaly. If you are in Canada then follow our laws. And dont think for a second that sn "land" isnt CANADIAN soil in the eyes of true CANADIAN'S. Traveller you are the
RACIST and you make me sick.

"I believe Doug Fleming and a few others may very well find themselves in jail and charged with "incitement" shortly.
There's one non native ringleader behind this all and he takes advantage of both the limited intelligence and inbred racially motivated hatred of others who can't figure that out and get played like a fiddle."

I tell ya what I am done waiting for the opp to step up and take care of business. I am completly in favor of a militia in Caledonia.

Tonight Doug Flemming conducted a meeting for those who want to be a part of his peace keeping group calling it Caledonia Peace Keepers and information to this was handed out. SN thugs had to invade his meeting inside yelling about other matters such as land claims and being racist. Outside about 70-75 people from a union group from Toronto were yelling that this is not a country and our flag is nothing but toilet paper. This was very upsetting to many seniors that were standing around outside. As one lady stated "What has happened to our young people today"? No group has been formed but other meeting will be presented in the near future. Doug has stated that once this group forms it will take on the same roll as the Guardian Angles do in New York N.Y.

I love how anti Canada groups are bused in and supported by CUPE union of public workers yelling and screaming that Canada isn't a country but a corp. these are the same fools who waked off their jobs at York University in Toronto. Another group was from Kitchener and they didn't have a clue what they were there for other then to scream and make noise. Guess Mr. Fleming has hit a nerve and the thugs now know their days of reckless antics and intimidation will be thwarted and actual arrests will be done. Not token arrests, or turn the other cheek and pretend you didn't see the criminal acts. Canada is no place for these kinds of thugs and terrorists and if a public anti bulling peace corp is needed then so be it!

not that the smoke shack is a triger for me and mine but I hope the farmer who OWNES that land askes the peace keepers to remove that shack, I will bring the dozzer over and push it into the nearest ditch making sure anyone or anything in it is rubble.

Sadly andre he likes the cut he gets from the sales.
He told many including a family member he didn't want the shack but one week later and his mind has changed. After a little investigating I found that the bag smokes being sold from that shack are $3.50 more then all others in the area.

Burn them all or fire up your dozzer and level them all. Hell I'll pay for the fuel and film it.

I'm a white guy, born here of Hungarian immigrants.

I've been watching and reading about the white folks complaining and whining down there in Caledonia.

In my opinion, as a white man, you protesters are noting but wackjobs, throwbacks to a caveman like mentality like the godddamned KKK. I hope the natives wipe the dirt with you.

Go to hell you scum!

this morning the OPP sent three cruisers in to attempt to remove the smoke shack on private property only to be met by several thugs who support the on going criminal activity. A very weak and poor attempt on be half of the OPP and the Ontario Government. Now we have two other smoke shacks in place one in a hydro field and one put in a business along highway six. The business on highway six is a flower/landscape business. Anarchy to follow!

I know this thread's kind of old, but I just noticed this little gem from Canadian Born: "In my opinion, as a white man".

Nice! Way to go man. All that hard work paid off. Now we have to take your opinions seriously.
