Michael Ignatieff interviewing Pierre Elliott Trudeau
Here's a curious video of current Liberal leader Michael Ignatieff having a nice chat with former prime minister Pierre Elliott Trudeau (parts two through five below the fold. In particular, you might want to watch the end of part three at 7:04 and the beginning of part four up to 2:56 to see Trudeau discuss Keynesianism. And then, after the 2:56 mark, discuss the Charter of Rights and Freedoms where Trudeau says, to my great surprise, what a fan he is of individual rights, as opposed to collective rights, and explicitly mentions the government as an instance of a collective that individuals ought to have rights against. Yeah, really...):

I can't believe that you people would take PET, the worst PM ever who committed multiple atrocities in the service of privileged interests, at face value on the topic of individual rights. He's a hypocrite at best and a tyrant at worst for the 1970 Invasion of Quebec and the 1980 Attack on Alberta. What nonsense.

Digging up bones are we?
Sad to have to go to such lengths to delve into the psyche of Ignatieff.
From what we've been hearing he's been all over the map on many subjects. He's for something before he's against it for political expediency.
The Conservatives are all about cutting taxes. Now as a Liberal, who traditionally tax and spend, Mr Iggy says he's for cutting taxes.
Does he have a plan or is he flying by the seat of his pants? Making plans in accordance with those put forth by someone else is some kind of plan.

If you think that is bizarre, I recall seeing PET during a typical softball TV interview referring to himself as a libertarian! A revisionist in his own time.

"A steadily depleting store of capital..." -- It's a very interesting assessment by Trudeau of a condition that afflicts senior politcal leaders.

Maybe this is an attempt to link Iggy with the Liebral's sainted Dear Leader? If so, it works both ways. Trudeau (*spit on his grave*) was the worst thing ever to happen. Thank goodness he was born in North America because had he been born in Europe he would have found a safe place among the dictators.

ZP: I'm sorry if I didn't make it clear by way of an italicized "really" and three periods after that, but I don't take him at face value. It's yet another example for why people should ignore the words coming out of people's mouths and, instead, focus on their actions.

Well since you people think Emery is a hero, it shouldn't surprise me that you see Trudeau in the same way. Ron Paul too. Fortunately you people will never win with a grip on reality like that.

But I don't see Trudeau as a hero, quite the opposite, in fact.
I don't recall him being an advocate of individual liberty, or of economic liberty, in particular. So I don't know why you're drawing those conclusions.

I think PET was in fact a hero for individual freedoms. The charter of rights and freedoms is being used constantly to protect individuals from the "collective" known as the state. The charter of rights is the most important piece of legislation Canada has ever had to keep the social conservative nanny-staters like Harper at bay. Thank God for the Charter and thank God that PET was in power to give it to us. I can't wait till all you old social conservatives are dead and buried and my generation gets to set Canadian policy. Oh and thank God for people like Marc Emery and Ron Paul who understand what freedom means.

The videos have apparently been taken down, I guess to prevent us right wing types from using them for nefarious purposes, anyone have a copy of them that they can post?

LizJ: The reason that Ignatieff is calling for tax cuts is because there were reports that there may be tax cuts in the budget. What he is trying to do is convince the public that taxes were cut because he asked for it. Not because Flaherty knows what he is doing and was going to cut taxes.

That's exactly correct, john davis, he's stealing ideas then marketing them as his own, it's the Liberal way. Of course he's getting advice from the Liberal back-roomies and they're not the cream of the crop, they all jumped ship.
He really hasn't got a clue what the hell he's doing, he's an embryo politico still in fuddled up professorial mode, the signs are all there.

Women will trust Ignatief and put him in the prime minister's seat at their earliest opportunity.
