Sarah Palin gets pranked by Quebec duo
Les Justiciers Masque managed to persuade Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin that they were calling her from France. And not just calling her from France, but that one of them President Nicolas Sarkozy.
Here's the remarkable (and funny) conversation:
Palin's response is a little endearing. She seemed genuinely flattered by the phone call, and seemed positively giddy about getting a phone call like that from the President of France. I think Sarkozy should do the right thing and call her.
According to the Globe and Mail:
The Avengers — Marc-Antoine Audette and Sebastien Trudel — managed to get Ms. Palin on the phone, conning her into thinking she was speaking with French President Nicolas Sarkozy.
“We're flying to New York in a couple of hours to do the CBS morning show — oh, my God,” a breathless Mr. Audette said Sunday.
The two say they're surprised at the impact of the gag, which has garnered global headlines after it surfaced almost instantly on blogs and websites around the world.
“We're doing it for fun — as comedians, that's our job,” Mr. Audette said.
“We had no idea it would have such a big impact in the United States and the rest of the world. It's the same in France and Britain — it's everywhere.”
Meanwhile, Palin's spokeswoman had this to say:
"Gov. Palin received a phone call on Saturday from a French Canadian talk show host claiming to be French President Nicholas Sarkozy," emailed spokeswoman Tracey Schmitt. "Gov. Palin was mildly amused to learn that she had joined the ranks of heads of state, including President Sarkozy, and other celebrities in being targeted by these pranksters. C'est la vie."
UPDATE: "Official" video below the fold.

Very funny. - Good thing they didn't pretend this was a 3am call...

To be fair the only two dumb things there was not knowing the name of the PM or that Quebec didn't have a Prime Minister. But you can understand why she wouldn't want to correct Sakorzy.
The only person that comes off as truly stupid in this is the staffer that answered the phone.

Hugh: I actually think she responded very well, and nothing in the phone call struck me as particularly embarrassing. I wouldn't correct Sarkozy either, and would just chalk it up to some language misunderstanding, or some confusion on his part.
And what's endearing is how excited she seemed to be to be talking to Sarkozy in the first place. She was sort of breathless, and eager to have a chat. And that, to me, was really pleasant.
