Rob Nicholson voted in favour of squelching section 13 of the Canadian Human Rights Act

Stephen Taylor, who blogs over at StephenTaylor.ca, has put together several interesting videos from the recent Conservative Party convention in Winnipeg. The one that really caught my eye was the one about section 13(1) of the Canadian Human Rights Act.

The proposal up for a vote was this one:

P-203 Modify HRC Jurisdiction PROPOSED BY VICTORIA AND KELOWNA - LAKE COUNTRY

iii) The Conservative Party supports legislation to remove authority from the Canadian Human Rights Commission and Tribunal to regulate, receive, investigate or adjudicate complaints related to Section 13 of the Canadian Human Rights Act.

Here's Justice Minister Nicholson speaking with Taylor before the vote:

And here's the actual vote itself. Rob Nicholson, Taylor informs us, voted "yes."

Does this mean we're closer to seeing a reinstatement of our traditional freedom of expression, guaranteed by the Charter? Here's hoping.

Comments

I know our NL delegation voted "yes" on this one. It was one of the better resolutions before the convention and I'm glad it passed.

Privatizing the CBC didn't come up for discussion did it?

Just wondering.
