Obama camp scrubs website to remove references to "mandatory" community service

Associate editor, Terrence Watson, posted a satirical letter from the Western Standard to American youth who could expect to be required to serve 50 to 100 hours per year in "volunteer" activities. That was the obvious implication of the statements found on Obama's website, Change.gov.

As news of the community service army draft trickled out, Obama webmasters began to scrub references to "mandatory" and "require." Take a look at these before-and-after quotes taken from the America Serves portion of the website:

Before (notice the highlighted section, especially the word "require"):

The Obama Administration will call on Americans to serve in order to meet the nation’s challenges. President-Elect Obama will expand national service programs like AmeriCorps and Peace Corps and will create a new Classroom Corps to help teachers in underserved schools, as well as a new Health Corps, Clean Energy Corps, and Veterans Corps. Obama will call on citizens of all ages to serve America, by developing a plan to require 50 hours of community service in middle school and high school and 100 hours of community service in college every year. Obama will encourage retiring Americans to serve by improving programs available for individuals over age 55, while at the same time promoting youth programs such as Youth Build and Head Start.

After (notice that the "requirement" has been changed to "setting a goal," as well as the fact that now college students can expect to be remunerated for their "volunteering"):

The Obama Administration will call on Americans to serve in order to meet the nation’s challenges. President-Elect Obama will expand national service programs like AmeriCorps and Peace Corps and will create a new Classroom Corps to help teachers in underserved schools, as well as a new Health Corps, Clean Energy Corps, and Veterans Corps. Obama will call on citizens of all ages to serve America, by setting a goal that all middle school and high school students do 50 hours of community service a year and by developing a plan so that all college students who conduct 100 hours of community service receive a universal and fully refundable tax credit ensuring that the first $4,000 of their college education is completely free. Obama will encourage retiring Americans to serve by improving programs available for individuals over age 55, while at the same time promoting youth programs such as Youth Build and Head Start.

Jaws,

Heh, I noticed that. Maybe one of Obama's lawyers finally told him about the 13th Amendment -- you know, the one prohibiting slavery.

Obama needs to take lessons from Canadian politicians...vague and ambiguous...smile and wave...
And then quietly make it law. Just like in Canada.

"The truth is, in order to get things like Universal Health Care and a Revamped Education System, the someone is going to have to give up a piece of the pie so that someone else can have more." ~ Michelle Obama

Doesn't it make you wonder what's going on behind closed doors in the Obama camp?

JC,

"Doesn't it make you wonder what's going on behind closed doors in the Obama camp?"

Dividing the spoils. The same thing that happens no matter who is in charge.

I think all these different working for the cause 'corps' would be a more efficient operation if he puts them all under one umbrella organization that he can call .... mmm let's see ... ya ... the Gestapo. http://tinyurl.com/5zqh3u

That way he can control everyone and ramp up the re education of middle schoolers just like German did in the 30s. It's a life time opportunity to become a lifetime drone for the 'The One' and his socialist/fascist America.

Terrence,

"Maybe one of Obama's lawyers finally told him about the 13th Amendment -- you know, the one prohibiting slavery."

Oh, please! The International Baccalaureate Programme, to name one major example, requires that students do 50 hours of community service in order to graduate. All Obama is doing is trying to extend that to public schools. Maybe you see no educational value in community service, but that does not mean there is none or that requiring it of students is tantamount to "slavery" any more than requiring that students do homework is. The change in language on the website is probably because they are worried that there are yahoos who can't tell the difference. The first reviews of that change seem to suggest they are right.

BTW, if you want to see what kind of policies Obama might put into place in his first few days, read this:

======================
OBAMA POSITIONED TO QUICKLY REVERSE BUSH ACTIONS

Stem Cell, Climate Rules Among Targets of President-Elect's Team

President Bush denied California the authority to regulate carbon dioxide emissions from automobiles. The president-elect says he will overturn that decision.

Transition advisers to President-elect Barack Obama have compiled a list of about 200 Bush administration actions and executive orders that could be swiftly undone to reverse White House policies on climate change, stem cell research, reproductive rights and other issues, according to congressional Democrats, campaign aides and experts working with the transition team.

Voluntary community service is laudable FC. Involuntary servitude is not. IB programs are voluntary.

Barack Obama's policies are no different then Adolf Hitler's. This guy is a wannnabe dictator. But that's no surprise he's been caught supporting that dirt bag dictator in Kenya. I bet he'd like nothing less than to implement National Socialism (Nazism for those that don't know) here in the U.S. The only difference between Barack Obama and Adolf Hitler, or Joseph Stalin is the fact that he's a black guy. which don't get me wrong I would support a black guy if he wasn't an outright Nazi. If there was a black guy running who wanted to support and defend the constitution then I would support him. But this guy is 180 degrees from that. No doubt he'll probably stage a false flag terror attack when he gets into office just like Bush did when he blew up the world trade centor.

I think it is glorious the the President Elect has come so far as to forget about slavery.
I just hope when he forces it on us again we can stop it without another civil war.
What an idiot this man is.

My kid had to do 40 hours to get his HS diploma.

Interesting that this new tyrant promises tyranny before the election, and springs non-tyranny on the American people afterward. There are just no words for this kind of sneakiness.

Dawg,

"Interesting that this new tyrant promises tyranny before the election, and springs non-tyranny on the American people afterward. There are just no words for this kind of sneakiness."

So you admit that Obama is an unreliable politician who promises one thing and delivers another in order to get elected.

Don't they all?

But it's hard to see how promising the slavery you guys are going on about was a winning electoral tactic. Very odd.
