Sarah Palin's speech at the Republican National Convention
For those who missed it, here is Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin's speech from the RNC in four parts.
Part 1:
Part 2:
Part 3:
Part 4:
My quick analysis: Excellent. Also, nasty in an enjoyable way. We'll have a roundup on the Shotgun sometime tomorrow.
One of my favorite lines, in response to those who criticize her experience: "I guess a small-town mayor is sort of like a ‘community organizer,’ except that you have actual responsibilities."

I saw this live. Wow. Dems have got to be nervous. She looked them in the eye and said "Bring it!" I can understand how she got her nickname, Sarah Barracuda. This will now be interesting.

The Drudge Report published viewing numbers today for her speech and she was just a bit off what Obama got, 37 Million VS 38 million. The democrats should be worried that she can generate numbers like that. So people are obviously interested in her and what she has to say. She was way ahead of Biden (24 million)
To me the speech hit a home run and landed a few punches straight on Obama's jaw. If she can debate as well as she gives a speech I don't think I'd like to be Joe Biden.

Terrence:
That particular last quote is what's got one CNN commentator all tied up in knots.
His parents are ‘community organizers' and he felt that comparison was offensive to community organizers.
My take? WFT is a community organizer?
And, that particular commentor sure is thin-skinned when confronted by a factual statement.

Set You Free,
I've been wondering what a "community organizer" does, too!
But I did a little research:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saul_Alinsky
Alinsky: the father of community organizing. Barack Obama has been called his disciple (Obama received a scholarship in Alinsky's name.)
Who's Alinsky? Basically: a communist, who saw grassroots community organizing as a means of advancing the revolution.
But what do community organizers DO? I think the gist is that they build a coalition of "regular people" into yet another special interest group that can exert pressure on politicians.
That's about all I know for now. But yeah, Palin's attack on community organizing has got the leftists all riled up on some boards I frequent. They've started claiming that "Jesus was a community organizer" so how dare she!
Best,
Terrence

I think they're like the guys that used to be block captains in Germany in the late 30's. They were eventually phased out by the SS. :)

"The media hysterically denounced Palin as "inexperienced." But then people started to notice that she has more executive experience than B. Hussein Obama -- the guy at the top of the Democrats' ticket." http://www.anncoulter.com/
The Republicans must know they picked the right "man" for the job based on how hysterical the opposition from the left.

Terrence and JC:
So, the Democrats have picked a black Jack Layton?
It all makes sense now putting it into the Canadian context.
Sounds just like the United and Anglican ‘Jesus was a community organizer' baloney that we here up here.
Oops. Wrong comparison.
Barack Obama sounds like the US version of Tommy Douglas.

"Barack Obama sounds like the US version of Tommy Douglas."
Heh, yeah, kind of like that. If you haven't seen this yet, take a look:
http://volokh.com/posts/1220243277.shtml
As part of his plan for "Universal Voluntary Citizen Service” Obama seems to want to "organize" everyone into various "Corps" he's been envisaging.
Clean Energy Corp, Global Energy Corp, Homeland Security Corp, etc.
If McCain were proposing inducting young people into something called the "Homeland Security Corp", people would freak.
But basically, he wants to force kids to "volunteer" their time starting at age 11(!?) This is community organizing on a grand scale indeed.
(Mandatory service programs for kids might not be a bad idea, but we should never pretend they're "voluntary." In addition, even if they're a good idea, why should they be mandated at the federal level?)
Best,
Terrence
