Christian Heritage Party candidate is looking for 7000 Harper votes
Larry Heather announced Monday his candidacy for the Christian Heritage Party (CHP) in Calgary Southwest, the riding of Conservative Prime Minister Stephen Harper.
In a press release, the CHP outlined its platform for the riding:
Prudent management of government programs and expenses, restoration of traditional marriage, and the protection of pre-born children rank high in the CHP’s prime objectives. Shattered Conservative Party promises on traditional marriage, income trusts, and fixed election dates are all reasons to give discerning voters pause for reflection in the voter’s booth.
Heather is asking for 7000 social conservative votes, not enough to defeat Harper, but enough to cause him and the Conservative Party to take notice:
“I am asking for seven thousand Christians in Calgary Southwest, who refuse to bend their most cherished values to the tarnished tin gods of secularism,” said Heather.
“Given the…totals in the 2006 election in Calgary Southwest, Stephen Harper will still have votes to spare….But he will no longer be free to brazenly disregard the allegiance of the social conservative vote in his own electoral district,” continue Heather.

Anyone examining the CHP's stand on any of the issues will find true conservatism as opposed to what one finds with the CPC. Unfortunately the CHP is not viewed as an inclusive party due to the name, which means most see it as only a home for committed Christians.

Alain, you would be totally amazed at the effect of a unified Christian vote in any electoral district - there is still an untapped power that could be released in a torrential outpouring of convictions - all in one direction. Larry Heather

Larry, I do not doubt you. However there are even more Canadians who share the same values but are either not Christian or religious. Had the party a different name it could attract more members and voters without changing its values. I have been told this by a few friends who are committed Christians and it only makes sense.
Nevertheless it would be up to the CHP to come to that conclusion.

This is an ancient discussion, and had it been acted upon, you would merely end up with another Reform or Alliance Party that loses it's identity in merger talks trying to find concensus where their is none. The unalterable founding principles of the Party are the only reason why we still have pro-life and traditional family standards.
When the Human Rights Kangaroo Courts finish their work, and there is a chainlock on the doors of ever Bible Teaching Church, and our democracy collapses due to lack of an ideological center -
Christians will look up, and remember the past. A time when they could have actually placed a party in the halls of Parliament who could have stood on guard abd called their nation back to its roots
The Coservatives are gradually purging all vestiges of the social conservatives into retirement or beaten sullen silence. This all began with the huge compromise in the Reform founding principles of putting fundamental moral values up to a plebicite. Since when does God ask us to take a vote on the Ten Commandments? The Reform origins truly morphed them into the Ten Suggestions. We need not be ashamed of the word Chistian in politics. Christ is the center of all that is redeemable in this world - including the sorry moral state of our government. Larry Heather
