Just in from Tehran

I had asked a trusted friend of mine, who is gone back to Iran after several years, to update me on what's going on in Iran these days and we had a brief conversation a few days ago. That brief conversation is now featured on Reuters website. I thought it might be of Shotgun's readers interest to be informed about these issues.

Update: It seems that the comment section was somehow closed to readers. I apologize. The comment section is open and please feel free to discuss.

The part about the Iranians showing symptoms of depression and irritability - maybe that has something to do with:

*the overthrow of their democratically elected government in 1953 by the U.S. and Britain

*followed by 25 years of horrible oppression under the Western-backed Shah

*Years of attacks by Iraq's president Sadam Hussein who was backed by the U.S. and Britain

http://www.globalpolicy.org/security/issues/iraq/history/husseinindex.htm

*the recent tightening of sanctions imposed by the U.S.

(that could have something to do with the economic worries)

*covert operations within Iran, U.S. support for anti-Iranian terrorist groups Jondollah and MEK

http://www.campaigniran.org/casmii/index.php?q=node/5551

*the threats of total destruction hanging over their heads ("air strikes"), possibly nuclear strikes

I'd post the links if I could.

Alan,

Does it have any thing with the current status under the current Islamic regime? You know, your logic is killing me so I decided to ask if it has any thing to do with the current regime. LOL... Don't make us laugh plz

Their regime is caused by international pressure, and the international pressure is part of the overall regime Iranians have to live with.

They elected a democratic government in the 1950's and they weren't allowed to keep it.

They are not allowed to be an independent nation.
