Was Omar Khadr tortured?
As an update to my post on the new Angus Reid survey on Canadian attitudes toward Omar Khadr (with a link to the Western Standard exclusive by Terry O’Neill entitled “The case against Khadr”), CBC News has just reported that:
A U.S. military judge ruled Friday that the American government must reveal the names and notes of those who interrogated Canadian Omar Khadr after he was captured in Afghanistan in 2002. The Toronto-born teenager has been detained at the Guantanamo Bay military base, facing charges of throwing a grenade that killed one American soldier and injured another. His lawyers claim interrogators used torture to pressure him into making self-incriminating statements.

I think there may be a mistake in the article
"His lawyers claim interrogators used torture to pressure him into making self-incriminating statements."
This should read
"His lawyers claim interrogators used pressure to torture him into making self-incriminating statements."
In today's world where Abu Ghraib is considered torture, this fits just as well.

<"His lawyers claim interrogators used torture to pressure him into making self-incriminating statements."
They all claim torture.
It's right in the al-Qa'eda manual and Khadr is an al-Qa'eda kid.
We know for a fact that the Khadrs lived with Crazy Sammy's family and somehow it's supposed to be a coincidence that Omar Khadr was netted by the U.S. Army in Afghanistan and "framed" for throwing a grenade that killed one American soldier and injured another?
Keep in mind that the accurate throwing distance of a grenade is well within visual identity range.

I'd like to know who the interrogators are - so I can give them a medal!

Define "torture."

And then, PROVE that it happened.

That's mental anguish + robbery.
Torture is being forced to watch the CBC.

Since torture now includes having hurt feelings it has no meaning. Furthermore who cares? Honestly!

One part of the article does make sense. His defense team is correct in claiming Omar's statements should not be used at his trial. If their case relies on his statement, the torture claim will never go away. If they have eyewitness and other evidence, they should never mention his statement.
Vietnam POWs made all kinds of statements that were coerced. Eventually, the US military came up with some new criteria regarding statements made under duress. Any American that makes statements condemning US policy is totally forgiven. What's good for the goose is good for the gander.

It doesn't really matter if the torture claim never goes away, DP. Defence lawyers make all sorts of unsubstantiated accusations. If we were to give in to every demand defence attorneys made, we might as well bulldoze the jails and institute Paradise Law.

Frankly, don't give one whit about any of the Khadr terrorist supporters. They should all have their citizenships revoked as enemies of the Country.
It's a disgrace to harbor them while our troops are fighting terrorists.
Let the Lefties weep and wail but the parents of the Khadr sons were grooming them for martyrdom, their black burka clad old lady said she'd be proud to have them give their lives for the cause.
The parents were certainly participating in child abuse according to our Western civil societies. They don't need to talk about torture, they wrote the book. Their ilk chop heads off without batting an eye. We need our heads read for offer them succor.
Let's hope the next report we hear on the lot of them is they've been chucked out of this country.
Don't hold your breath.

I'll take it I can see you on the next season of this?

You're favourite Channel AND a program you must just itch to get on. Let me know. I am sure to cheer for you.

Actually come to think of it, maybe they can do a Western Standard Special, H2, Liz, Speller, Ezra, maybe a few "big names" like Mark Steyn to really get people going....
Think about it. Would be good advertisement and great entertainment for the whole family.

Snowy,
"You're favourite Channel ..."
You don't pay attention very well, do you? We had this discussion over a year ago. I have never seen Fox Channel, Fox News. I don't have cable nor satellite.
Your assumptions are showing.

This is all such a pain. It's why I continue to recommend instant battlefield executions for al-Qaeda members without, or who have exhausted, their value as sources of intelligence.
Such would be in keeping with the laws of war which existed up until very recently. Terrorists should be treated like pirates, bandits, and spies.

I was speaking for the whole of WS, not you personally, but I know you like to take things personally when you think you can get a "counter" out of it.
So to that end: You'd be fitting well onto Fox News Channels lineup of "fair and balanced" pundits.

This little scum bag wants his million like his lying scum bag brother...I think they should both end up like their father.

Let's follow the thread:
h20 starts:
In today's world where Abu Ghraib is considered torture, this fits just as well.
Posted by: h2o273kk9 | 14-Mar-08 2:33:52 PM
snowy responds by actually quoting me and then this:
"I'll take it I can see you on the next season of this?
http://www.foxreality.com/show.php?id=2836
You're favourite Channel AND ..."
h2o then quotes snowy but writes:
Your assumptions are showing.
Posted by: h2o273kk9 | 14-Mar-08 6:30:04 PM
and finally snowy quotes h2o
"I was speaking for the whole of WS, not you personally,"
You did have an AFTERTHOUGHT that addressed a larger audience here at WS but your initial response with quotes was directed at me.
You are now having so much difficulty countering my arguments that you must now make stuff up when you get caught.
How do you sleep at night?
"So to that end: You'd be fitting well onto Fox News Channels lineup of "fair and balanced" pundits."
Whereas your misleading statements would fit well on the CBC, ABC, NY Times, CNN, NBC, CBS, CTV, BBC, etc.

I would think the reason US Authorities have allowed a certain amount of legal leeway for that sleazy little shit Khadr is that he became a first class
"Grass" and high class informer as defined by UK Troops who defeated the nasty Provisional IRA in
Northern Ireland, much of the success by US Special Forces in Afghanistan in my opinion can be directly traced to Khadr and his team of Lawyers,Khadr will
remain in the US leased facility i Cuba for many more years -and continue to Grass. MacLeod

What does this terrorist look like today. Remember the cbc documentary with the family. Mother said she wanted her sons out of Canada because she was afraid they would become homosexuals. She would rather they become suicide bombers and die with dignity, not aids.
OBL was at the daughters wedding. They lived in his compound.
There is a woman in a mexican jail for over 2 years and the terrorists supporters are just now coming to her aid. Has she been tortured.
Does this kid still have all his fingers, recently 5 fingers (absent of bodies) were sent to officials from the kidnappers of 5 hostages.
Has he been beheaded yet, guess that is not torture as there is no outrage when headless bodies are found.
Have any pictures of said torture been posted on u-tube, aka the beheading of Dan Pearl.
