I personally feel that we should support the troops but not the war. We are there under NATO obligations and I don't feel that an NGO should have the power to put Canadians or anyone else in a position to lose their lives. We didn't "elect" NATO and they are completely unnacountable to anyone. Just an opinion. :)

What a 2 faced argument!

More like a gutless excuse to avoid responsibilty.

NATO is an Non-Governmental Organization? Hardly!

It is an International Organization, meaning a pact, or in this case a treaty, between governments.

I for one see the Afghan mission as war, not peace and I might be considered one of the 58% who want the mission to end in 2009 EXCEPT I'd vote for the mission to end IMMEDIATELY. I support our troops coming HOME.

Harper is not the only one who has not properly explained the mission to the world.

Dawn, do you know any of the troops? Are you related to any? Were you one? I can say "YES" to all three myself, not too sure about you though.

Try going to your local armory or base, ask any reservists or reg force people you find what THEY think, 'cause theirs is the only opinion that counts. NOT yours. I'm not trying to be nasty; I am serious, there isn't a member of our armed forces that wouldn't be delighted to help you understand what we are doing in AfStan. You are unaware of the mission because all we see in the media are the coffins coming home; the media has done a spectacularly shitty job in telling the good news. But then, as they despise having a conservative gov't in charge in Ottawa, they aren't really out to make it easy for Harper, are they?

A friend of mine (she's an EME) put is quite succinctly; it's pretty damned hard to dig a well, to put a roof on a school, to patch a hole in the wall of a mosque or to get little girls into school when nasty people are shooting at you!

It's a mean and tough world out there Dawn, sometimes our military comes across an SOB that really needs a bullet between the eyes. Pretty harsh to say so, but as no one is asking you to do it, just appreciate those that are willing to do so on your behalf and on the behalf of those that need the help. You know, like Afghan women?

Funny, on another thread (global warming) you said this,

"Similarity: We live in a country that promotes free speech and hopefully fights against fascism, totalitarianism and oppression."

I laughed at the time because I had no doubt that on an issue like this; Afghanistan, you would take this position.

You lefties are all the same.

You are willing to sacrifice our own well being to support a scam like global warming, but on a real issue, such as fighting fascism, totalitarianism, and oppression, all you can do is shriek in outrage at the injustice of it all.

As long as you have your own freedom, to hell with anyone else's.

You people are pathetic in your narrow mindedness and lack of critical thinking.

You can be sold a bill of goods as long as it paints us as evil, yet when it comes to recognizing true evil and dealing with it, you feel it needs to be "explained" to you.

Pathetic. Truly pathetic.

Leftist moral superiority toward the Afghanistan mission might only be justified if Canadian troops wore blue helmets and carried whistles.
Truly pathetic is a good start Deepblue.

I do have family in the military. I have a brother who was in Iraq (even though we are told Canada isn't in Iraq).

This war isn't about "terrorism" because if it was, they'd be in Saudi Arabia, not Afghanistan. They certainly aren't rocking the boat in Saudi, now are they?

There's a few places in the world I have no problem supporting troops. Afghanistan isn't one of them, AT LEAST for supporting this "so called war on terrorism"

Pathetic is for those who believe the propoganda machine of what this war in Afghanistan is all about.

Deepblue! Not once did I say I supported the stance on "global warming" nor did I insinuate it. I stated we all agree that pollution is bad for the earth and hopefully we all agree about the comment you quoted above. To insinuate someone is "left" or "right" by just a few comments isn't very logical! BTW, I am pro-life. How left is that?

Ohhh... and I'm pro Ron Paul... you can't much further right than that! (Ron who?)
