$100,000 cartoon contest!!
Remember when this was the kind of thing you'd find at the back of a newsprint magazine, offering you the chance to draw Woody Woodpecker or Betty Boop for a $25 prize and a cartooning instruction book? Geez, I remember stuff like that at the back of my Archie comics when I was little.
Times have changed, though, and $25 doesn't buy quite as many Sea Monkeys as it used to. Nowadays a book of art instruction goes for more than that! Heck, you'd be lucky if you could buy 5 Archie comics!
Now the cartoon prizes are much bigger, and the rules have changed. No longer do you submit your attempt along with a proof of purchase and a $1 entry fee. No, now you have to go out and slaughter another artist like a lamb.
The purported head of al-Qaeda in Iraq has offered a reward for the murder of a Swedish cartoonist over his drawing depicting the Prophet Muhammad.The $100,000 (£49,310) reward would be raised by 50% if Lars Vilks was "slaughtered like a lamb" said the audio message aired on the internet.
The speaker, said to be Abu Omar al-Baghdadi, threatened a new offensive during the holy month of Ramadan.
Last month's cartoon showed Prophet Muhammad's head on a dog's body.
Several Muslim countries protested.
Hmmm... wasn't more than two or three years ago that the Religion of Peace was telling us that violence during the "Holy Month of Ramadan" was haram, or verboten. I guess they noticed we weren't buying into that bullshit, dropped the charade, and went back to what they do best: Threats and killings.
But Saturday's taped message said the militants were announcing a "call to shed the blood of the Lars who dared to insult our Prophet"."During this generous month we announce an award worth $100,000 to the person who kills this infidel criminal," the speaker said.
He also announced a $50,000 reward for the killing of the editor of the newspaper.
Yup, Islam is a generous religion indeed.

Islam is also brittle and humorless.
They've definitely taken the 'N' out of FUN, but mocking is one of our best weapons.
Keep it up Jihadis, when you start to collect these 'bounties' you be waking the people of the West up and then we can really get to work dealing with your agents in our midst.

They are far too extravagant. You should be able to hire a hit man for no more that 20K plus expenses. Those Islamists are definitely not good with money. They will have to can the 'lamb' shit and just take a standard Bb hit.

The west may be in for a surprise. As the Islamic population grows, how long will it be before all things western come under attack? (literally) Movies, music, dancing, liquor stores, TV programs? If a simple cartoon set these people off, what's next?

Sounder, perhaps you have not noticed by it is already happening. It is much further along in Eurabia but it is taking place in the US and in Canada.

Islamists must be discriminated against with extreme prejudice. Cartoons must flourish, Imams must be ridiculed and censured at every occasion. Their offensive and evil differences with Western civilization must be highlighted always. Moral relativism must be countered and shown for the "root cause" that it is.
Western tolerance, fear and appeasement is their weapon of choice and it has proven to be extremely effective. As Mark Steyn preaches, it isn't about them, it's all about us.
Our overseas soldiers can't win this thing for us. All they can do divert some of the action elsewhere and do a little nation building in the Jihadist's back yard.
The secular crusade is on. Can a (now mostly) secular West muster the determination and moral conviction that the Christian's had the last time they pushed the Muslims (Islamist ideologists) back? Their's was a frontal physical battle, ours is domestic moral, ideological and physical.
As an Atheist, I find this question most relevant.

The new French government under Sarkozy gets it:

Kouchner, quoted by French daily Le Figaro, added that "Iran does whatever it pleases in Iraq ... one cannot find in the entire world a crisis greater than this one."
HOPEFULLY, it's only a matter of months before Iran is dismantled.

Too many of the commentators in the MSM don't get how serious the issue is. They scoff at our reaction to the veil issue. Rudy Julianni had it right. Go after the small things and people will think twice before committing the big ones. Too bad issuing the kind of threats that al Baghdadi did would get you arrested in this country- that is if you were a non-muslim.

...and to think when I was in grade 8 French class I was drawing fight jets like F-15 bombing and doing a machine gun strafe in the corners of my binder.
Could have made millions.

But in many schools today, you would be suspended for such drawings. In the US recently, a boy was suspended for such art work - and another was expelled for pointing his fingers in the shape of a gun.
The Leftoids have taken over - and it's nuts in the schools! Let kids be kids - and don't outlaw tag in the playground like they did last week in Colorado. Never mind dodge ball - that's been outlawed for a couple of years now.

The problem with the way they are going about things, is they see themselves as the annointed ones--the pure ones--the true believers--where all others are either kuffar, unbelievers, infidels or whatever else they call us. And yes, that includes enemies.
