Does the elephant in the room have to step on them to get noticed?

American pundits from left and right continue to sound the alarms on Stalinist North Korea and mullahcractic Iran (third item).  Yet they share something in common - a complete inability to notice Tehran and Pyongyang's common benefactor.

Maddening.

What's China done to you? You seem a bit pre-occupied by that particular country.

Realpolitik teaches us that it would be foolish in the short term, and would not achieve anything good in the long term, to start a real confrontation with China. As can be seen today, 35 years or so after Nixon's visit, China is richer, freer, and more capitalist than ever. Of course not democratic, nor free by any Western standards, but there is progress. Gradually, the Chinese state will become more open to 'real' freedom and democracy, but we're not there yet.

Idealpolitik, on the other hand, would have us enter into severe conflict with China, e.g. because of their deplorable human rights record. Would that help anybody? Would that bring democracy and freedom to China any faster. Certainly not.

(Idealpolitik might possibly work in small country settings, like Iraq, although at this point there is still a long way to go.)

DJ I think it comes down to they don't want to officially "know" about China right now.

They know. They aren't prepared to act on that knowledge as it doesn't suit the political climate.

They need China for other reasons so it's not time yet.

And China is the same, they want access to lucrative American markets, so they don't want to upset things by being too open about their real agenda.

My aunt once quoted some African proverb to me, and it makes sense. Here it is, and it takes a minute to really sink in.

"You can't wake a man who is pretending to be asleep!"

I like the last proverb about not being able to wake up a man not asleep.

I agree that our politics toward China is working. My main concern would rather be Pakistan, a hotbed for Islamofacist terrorists.

I would expect China and India give us a hand to get rid of Islam.

Remi and Jonah,

No, the ChiComs have been helping the terrorists get rid of us. That's the whole point.

Johan,
"What's China done to you? You seem a bit pre-occupied by that particular country."

And the Left seems at bit pre-occupied with the US. Why don't you ask this question of them?

When you hear and see the glee with which the msm love the saga of Lord Black and his newspaper empire you know why they do not squeek about China. Leftos believe that when the Bolshevik outfit take over the likes of them (supporters of world state slavery) who 'supported' the 'ideals' of Marx, Lenin, Stalin, Hitler etc., will be the big shots calling the shots. The lefto minnions hate sucess with real vetrol. Watch them in action every night on your T.V. (news broadcasts in general).

The cutsie wootsy newscasters are stupid and naive; that is just what the real Communists want - use them and then get rid of them (just kill them like they did/do in all Communist states). The real Communists want the people with brains and ambition and imagination working for them, the only way to get at the productive people is through policies promoted and supported by the 'useful idiots'.

having a lot of money doesnt make you a free country. they are still a communist tyranny that tolerates no challenges to there policies. we just pay there bills now thats all.

Anything you want to know about China could be answered by one Maurice Strong and a few of his fellow hangers on. He spends a great deal of time there, must be pretty important goings on.

jema 54: The Lefty assholes in the MSM take joy in seeing successful people like Conrad Black taken down,it matters not how bogus or obscure the reasons.
Black will have the last laugh. He does not deserve such treatment. He won't pander to the press or suffer fools and who can blame him.
