The Liberals - The Political Version of "Soap"
Is this a sitcom out of the 80's? .
"Haunted by yet another scandal, Joe Volpe said Monday that he'll continue in the Liberal leadership race despite new allegations that his camp signed up party members who were already dead."
So the allegation of signing up dead voters should be enough for one day, right?
"As he left the conference, Volpe was heckled by two protesters dressed as ghosts, one carrying a sign that read "Volpe has spirits."
OK, the news room is starting to get busy, but stop the presses ...
"While one ghost led a chase through downtown Ottawa, Volpe's 'Ghostbusters' later claimed the man was Richard Zussman, a Bob Rae supporter."
So now Bob Rae supporters are dressing up like ghosts and chasing Joe Volpe down the street in Ottawa. But Volpe has an idea of why all these bad things keep happening to him....
"Volpe suggested Monday that he was not the choice of the party "establishment.''
An Italian-Canadian, Volpe said despite having lived in Canada for "51 years," he had been warned he might be seen as an "outsider'' or "not Canadian enough.''
Now he's blaming his misfortune on the fact that he's Italian.
That's got to be in for the day, but... in the same CTV interview, former Public Works Minister Alfonso Gagliano (you remember him from such films as "The Sponsorship Scandal and "The Wacky Ambassador to Denmark Gets Recalled") agrees with Volpe that part of the problem is that they are Italian... (Never mind that signing up dead people in a graveyard would be something you might see on the Sopranos).
But also yesterday, Hedy Fry quits the leadership race to throw her support behind the former NDP premier of Ontario, who up until January of 2006 still gave money to the NDP, but is now considered one of the frontrunners for the leadership of the Federal Liberals.
That has got to be it for one day...
Hang on, these are the Liberals we're talking about.
"Meanwhile, a complaint was filed Monday with the Liberal party alleging that 60 members were signed up improperly by Ignatieff's camp in two Toronto-area ridings -- including one man in Ignatieff's constituency said to have died two years ago.
The complaint lists 48 members in Ignatieff's Etobicoke-Lakeshore riding who have allegedly admitted they did not sign a membership form or pay the membership fee, as required by party rules and electoral law.
It includes signed statements from three of the members who each declare that "my membership fees were kindly paid for by the Michael Ignatieff leadership campaign.''
So now Iggy is allegedly signing up dead people as well.
Cue the music..
Confused? You won't be after this week's episode of Soap
UPDATE - I forgot to mention the StopIggy.com website and who's behind it. This is so bizarre.

Liberals committing electoral fraud? Now there is something you don't see every day, just every election.

Liberal Leadership Campaign needs a few good laughs
-wait until the Party Faithful read little Eddie Goldenberg's "Book" No serious Liberal contender
should dare to piss off "Italian Canadian Liberals'-there are about a million of them in Ontario alone. Volpe will eventually make an offer
that "no one can refuse". In the Atalntic region
both major Parties play games with Delegates Lists
- Delegates of course cannot be trusted in any event
-a "Delegate" stating that he/she is supporting a
particular Candidate really means nothing - the actual vote is the only real criteria. MacLeod

wait it gets even better
Now that whore Belinda Stronach, is sited as the other woman in Tie Domi's divorce
I guess shafting her then boyfriend Foreign Affairs minister Peter McKay wasnt enough, or him finding out she switched parties on the news wasnt enough.Or milking daddies company.
Does she never get tired of being on her back for influential men ?

Does Volpe describe himself as an Italian-Canadian?
If so, he is in no way suited to be the leader of a party who could conceivably become PM. That job is for a Canadian, not an Italian and definitely not someone who can't decide which he is.
It's time to stop hyphenated Canadians and the best place to start is with someone who has his eye on the PM's office.
Posted by: Kathryn | 2006-09-26 8:50:20 AM
Not to worry, Kathryn, the next Eastern-Canadian who becomes PM will probably preside over the breakup of the country.

The Ottawa Sun today reports that Domi explained away his relationship because he was interested in making commissions off a sale of steel to Magna.
Aside from the gullability issue, the fact is one wonders how Belinda could be a MP and be negotiating Magna business, AND where does Domi find time to lace up the skates and go toe-to-toe with Dofasco?
But, if we take Tie at his word, one can only speculate as to the size, shape, and tensile strength of the "steel" he was trying to sell to the Honourable Member for Door Latches and Car Seats...

Playing the race card cut it's teeth under Liberal rule. When all else fails, be a victim.
If you cannot win their hearts and minds win their sympathy.
A good definition of a liberal is "take it anyway you can get it"
In a party where the ends justify any means required ... how can they be against torture. They have used on the rest of us since Pierre Trudeau's time.
Boob will win and they will change the name to the ... are you ready?
NEW DEMOCRATIC LIBERAL PARTY OF CANADA.
If these twits happen to win the next election ... hide your wallet, take any buy out you can and get the hell out of this country ... perhaps a good choice would be Australia where they still have some reality in their governance.
Or the USA before our dollar goes back down to 62 cents.
The entertainment value coming from the liberals is almost worth the price of admission.
These are the fearless politicians of Canada, they don't whistle past a grave yard ... they write down the names on the headstones.

duke do u think Ontario will vote for rae ? he is regarded as a joke here.

Politics is a tough business when it comes to personal affairs. Belinda S. is doubtless finding that out. It's cruel at times. She doesn't look too "High Class" the way she goes through the studs. If she didn't have big bucks, thanks to Daddy, she'd be considered common trash, that's how class system measures it.
The Liberals can name their Soap, HEADSTONE HUNTERS, lots of material for a long saga.
There's nothing more desperate and pathetic than pulling the Race Card as Volpe has. He's taking himself and the Liberals to lower than low.
This twerp called Steve McKinnon can smirk on, but he's no better to allow such behaviour. It's bad for all Politics in Canada.
The same behaviour has been coming from Ignatieff's Camp, trying to resurrect votes from the graveyards.Hope they don't canvass the same Yards.
Senator Mac Harb, formerly an Ottawa Lib. MP and Chretien suck-up, said Frere Jean was the best PM Canada ever had and was rewarded with a seat in the Senate. Mr. Harb said today Bob Rae will be the best choice to lead the Libs, just like his pal Chretien! God help us!

Liz:
Panic not.
Bob Rae as Liberal leader sounds like a pretty good option.
Ontarians, I'm sure, will take care of the party come next election.
Posted by: Set you free | 2006-09-26 11:35:29 AM
Most of my friends are Liberal and and there is absolutely no way they would ever vote for Bob Rae. The level of disgust at what that man put Ontario through is still palpable.
So that would just make my year...Bob Rae as leader.
Such a nice ring to it.

Yeah, well just another week in the Librano 11-ring circus, with a few freak sideshows in the shadows.
It would be hard to parody the Librano meltdown, and it's hard to imagine Canadians voting them back in to rob us blind again, whoever their eventual "leader" is--but who knows?
Canadians have been sleepwalking during, and brainwashed through, the past 13 years of Librano anti-government, so one can only hope that this spate of scandals will shake us awake and have us giving PMSH and his CPC government the majority they so richly deserve.
Contrast Volpe (I talk to the Dead) Volpe and Alphonso (I'll take care of it) Gagliano to John Baird and Jim Flaherty, who were on Mike Duffy Live (without Mike Duffy live; how's he doing, anyway?) yesterday.
Two plainer talking, making sense politicians you'll never meet. When asked why the spending cuts, Flaherty didn't skip a beat and said it's because the CPC don't spray money around where it doesn't need to be, because Canada has to pay down its debt.
FINALLY, some fiscal responsibility, which is expected of us as individuals and families--so why not of our government? The CPC understand this. They identify with what the average family is dealing with: higher costs and bills, bills and more bills, which are often a stretch to pay on time. They want to lower the debt to encourage investments in Canada and to lower each household's taxes.
YES and AMEN to that!

Volpe's election tag-line - "I see dead people....."
Great, Elections Canada will now have to hire(more) channelers so the dead/ghosts will be able to vote in our dimension.
The Liberals, their ooky, their spooky and a little kooky, there the Liberal family.......

These guys give new meaning to the phrase: ‘flogging a dead horse.'
Posted by: Set you free | 2006-09-26 12:53:50 PM
I think I sense intolerance here towards dead people. We should not forget that they have been known to vote during elections, so I am sure the Liberals just want to make sure they don't miss any votes come election time.

Not so sure about Ontarians rejecting Rae.
We are still a Stupid People.
Yours truly excepted.

Oh my God, and here I thought afganistan and the middle east were the hot topics for prejudice. Thankyou mr volpe for setting us straight. People of italian heritage are the big victims now.We should send jack layton right away to italy, to discuss the issue. i like michael corens definition of prejudice. Your a racist if you are winning an argument with a liberal.
Posted by: john a. | 2006-09-26 4:24:06 PM
Volpe has the sixth sense, he sees dead people. Unfortunately he seems to be a bit short on the other five senses.
"I see dead people voting for me and they don't know they are voting for me."
Posted by: Stan | 2006-09-26 5:01:29 PM
Boo Hoo everybody cry the liberals and ndp are upset that money was cut to there favorite "pigs at the trough" organizations. I guess that means cuts to graveyards, no more money from dead people. And the downtown toronto ndpers will have to get real jobs.

Has everyone forgotten it was Volpe that screamed racism against the Western Standard for the most excellent Libranos poster?
Apparently it was a direct insult to his heritage. This guy comes from a long line of morons.
Never underestimate the stupidity of the eastern voter, they have voted for and kept the Liberal clown act in power for many years. I don't think it matters who is leading the circus.

Iggy will win. He is in the trudeau mold so look out. Another reality challenged intellectual idiot like that and the West will be gone. Look for big problems in the West if the liberals win the next election, problems other that talk.
Posted by: Western Canadian | 2006-09-26 11:03:38 PM
No problem. We leave.

The only function of the Liberal Party of Canada
is to win elections. Italian Immigrants to Ontario
in particular were recruited into the Liberal Party of Ontario and Canada en masse upon arrival. Liberal
planners knew they would domibate certain constituncies and would be a force to reckon with.Volpe is playing for a trade off. He will support Ignatieff (who will win). What is making the
Media today is nothing unusual in the natural ruling party - never to be underestimated. Cheers

Western Canadian says, "Look for big problems in the West, if the Liberals win the next election..."
WC, look for more than trouble. Look for a lot more easterners eying the West as a good place to live. Maybe a mass exodus from Ontario on the part of those of us who can't stand the Librano$ and never vote for them. I, for one, will feel disenfranchised as a Canadian if the Librano$ are elected as the next government: Please, G*d, it doesn't happen!
If that happens, get me outta here!I may well be heading West.

Block:
You, and all freedom-loving people, are welcome in Alberta.
Within 15 years, our population will go from about 3.8 million to 7 million, roughly the same as Quebec's.
Alberta is the future ... Central Canada is slowly sinking to become part of an irrelevant past whose governments are spending themselves into oblivion ... and will be a nice place to visit while taking a well-deserved vacation after putting in many months of honest work.
Canada's prime source of production, the hot air industry, is becoming increasingly irrelevants as half of Alberta is being rebuilt in a new image. The rebuilding project in the other half is on hold because of a serious labour shortage.
Come on down, while housing is still relatively cheap ... in the $400,000 range.

Mr. Eddie Goldenberg's Book is going to piss off a lot of Liberals in the Chretien and Martin crowd, who may not get on either Chretien's or Martin's Christmas Card List. "Steve" MacKinnon came directly
from ACOA HO, Moncton NB to be Executive Director of
the Federal Liberal Party. Prior to that he was a
flunky for Frank McKenna, and a PR Type with Hawk
Communications. Harper and associates are fortunate
that MacKinnon is such a bird brain. He and the Party President will not survive transition to a new
Leader. Who will be Ignatieff in my opinion. The hard core of the Federal Liberal Party have written off "Western Canada" and could care less
how "The West Votes. Supreme arrogance is a Liberal Party trait. But do not underestimate them

Jack:
Where would that put the Liberal party if the current demographic shift continues westward?
I was camping in Canmore last weekend and the guy in the next spot was a contractor, who said he was from Ottawa.
He had a bit of a French-Canadian accent, so he finally said he was. He said he was bringing in a crew of six workers from Quebec.
I told him anybody who wants to work hard and loves freedom is welcome in Alberta and that I hoped that after being here for a while, he would realize we have absolutely nothing against French-Canadians.
He was surprised there are so many French settlements in central Alberta ... places like Morinville, St. Paul, St. Albert, Bonnyville, Legal.
Also, the birth rate in Alberta is the highest among Canadian provinces despite booming real estate prices.
So, the Liberal Party can ignore the west all they like ... but they do so at their own peril because the population numbers are shifting west and they will become irrelevant before they even realize it.
Alberta is this country's future and in a story today, has the second-freest (behind Delaware) jurisdiction in North America. All other provinces in Canada are rated below the US state considered to be the least free.
We have no shackles to throw off here ... we welcome all here with open arms ... as long as they're willing to put in an honest day's work.

Actually Alberta, Manitoba and Saskatchewan were
created by Liberal Prime Minister Sir Wilfred Laurier with insistance from Hon Henri Bourassa
-A political Organization like the Liberal Party
will follow the demographic trends of the Country
and encourage transition of populated areas in Central and Eastern Canada to move to "The West"
The Republic of Ireland's economic " miracle" was
created when Ireland encouraged their population
to immigrate, (to US, UK, Canada, Australia)thus
marginalizing their social programs to a much smaller population, especially during the late 'sixties and 'seventies. It could happen in Canada. MacLeod

Jack:
I have no reason to doubt what you've just written.
All I know is what you see in Alberta today is how it's going to be. Anybody can ignore what's happening here ... at their own peril.
At some point, the populace of this country has to move to where the jobs are.
My parents came across an ocean without an understanding of English for a better life and stayed in Ontario for only 18 months before moving out west.
Trust me, there will be a huge influx of population into Alberta for the rest of this decade.
Posted by: Set you free | 2006-09-27 1:44:21 PM
I agree Set You Free - the transition is currently underway and has been for some time. My family came from Ulster to the British Colony of Nova Scotia in 1819. There were many thousands of them, who also went to the US, and Ontario. Toronto the Good was built by Ulstermen. The big looser in a demographic shift will be Quebec, and their penchant for electing fools. The days of a Political powerhouse
in Quebec are over. MacLeod

Are you saying the Chretienites will not be successful in geting their man Rae the coveted prize?

Go, Bob, go.
Can't get Iggy with it just yet.
Posted by: Set you free | 2006-09-27 3:13:54 PM
Could be a conspiracy going between the vindictive Jean Chretien against Paul Martin. Chretien wants to put Martin down in history as the one who destroyed the Liberal party, so electing Bob Rae will insure it. Poor old Bob is being USED by Chretien and his cabal of sore heads.
Chretien is still seething, wouldn't bet against the power of his wrath. Rae's their man.
