Using "so-cons" as weapons

As expected, the Liberals are resorting to the usual bag o' tricks and using the prospect of "so-cons" and evangelical Christians' being elected as part of a Tory government caucus to beat up on Stephen Harper and the Conservative Party.

No surprises, there.

What I do find a LITTLE surprising, however, is the Conservative campaign's coming out with a list of Liberal so-cons to beat up on Paul Martin.

Ugh.

Maybe the world's second face transplant is due for Canada, as Stephen Harper transforms himself into Brian Mulroney.

Do the Cons realize how stupid they look putting tight lids on all of their so-con candidates in the days up to the election? Come on folks, poll after poll show these guys are more representative of the typical Canadian than is the "Natural Ruling Party."

Actually I think it is a great idea and the MSM should in fact be questioning the social liberals as well as the social conservatives.....if this type of questioning does not show media bias I don't know where your head is!!!!!

Fight fire with fire...it helps that the CPC has the high ground.

Check this out. Americans are noticing the Liberal campaign failure:

It surprises me to hear that CPC did that; but as a subscriber to the Toronto Star I guess it would be too much to ask.

Of course they should eliminate the attacks by posting the Liberals who voted against the same-sex, inlcuding Belinda's parliamentary secretary.

Don't they also have a tape of Paul Martin saying that he believes we should have gone to Iraq?

The Silent majority will speak up tomorrow..those who no one ever polls and this is an election that will be fought in the heavenlies as well. Our country was founded on Godly principles and we need to get back to that..

Russ, it's not beating up on anyone to simply highlight Paul Martin's hypocrisy. All we've been doing is pointing out the phoniness of Liberal absolutism on certain issues. You just can't get away with trying to benefit from a big tent coalition, while slagging elements of that coalition at every turn.
But the real question is how these people can run for him, and sit in his caucus, when their boss viciously attacks their principles.

Actually, I think the list will actually get some attention with the MSM. Except for the liberals they are the only ones who actually care.

The sad part is that "so-con" has become a dirty word even among some Conservatives. So much for tolerance and mutual respect. I'm not a social conservative, in fact, I'm quite the opposite on some issues, but turning so-cons into some kind of enemies of society is disgusting. Every single so-con has as much to ad to the debate as your friendly neighbourhood "progressive".

All i can say is that there will be many of the Liberals worried about the snap of rubber gloves when all of their corruption is exposed. We need a full audit of the Gun Registry, HRDC, Earnscliffe, $9 Billion in Foundations, CSL Grants, Public Works Relocation Scams (exposed on Conservative Life), plus no doubt many more.

JASON KENNY....i hope your reading!

It amazes me that Canadians will still vote for a corrupt party that stole our tax dollars and missmanaged billions more and are under 35 RCMP Criminal Investigations! There are alot of brainwashed sheep out there that are condoning corruption as well as supporting a morally bankrupt party.

David Warren, Jan. 22, 2006:

"But the best is often the enemy of the good. Real policy options are not on the table in this election, and we must therefore choose among the modest goods that are available. That is in fact sound Christian doctrine. And once it is understood, I consider it our moral duty to assist in removing the Liberals from power, and replacing them with something a little better. That is the primary thing, tomorrow, and it means, unambiguously, voting Conservative.

I would vote for my local Conservative if he had two heads and five elbows and was married to a same-sex yeti in Tibet. And I would vote for him with a clean conscience."

David Warren, Dec. 17, 2005:

"This is why Harper’s Conservative campaign of small promises and constant awkward reassurances is such a loser. It cannot hope to win anyone over. But it is too late to change, for an edgier campaign, full of positive ideas, would have required many months of bold preparation.

On the face of things now, I expect a Liberal majority. The Conservatives will lose most of the seats they gained in Ontario last time out, and a few more to a livelier NDP in Saskatchewan and B.C. The Liberals will fight back to about where they were or better in Quebec, once it is clear they are going to win nationally. Big question: Can the Conservatives retain their status as Official Opposition?"

Just one more reminder, that mainstream media basically turned a willful blind eye for twelve years thereby enabling the corruption to flourish in the Liberal government.
Interestingly the Mike Duffy remark to John Duffy about the attempted intimidation may be more embedded in our political system than we care to admit as Canadians.

Social Conservatives
By Stephen Gray

Conservative: “opposed to hasty changes in the
political, … or civil institutions of the country;
that which preserves” ( Definitions from, National
Dictionary 1941 Edition)

The media of course - liberal - in its views
wants the Conservative party to dump the people called “social
conservatives.” At one time words like honesty,
decency, morality and justice meant something and
people knew these standards of behavior were to be
admired and sought after. Now these values are sneered
at and labeled “social conservative.” Yet at one time
most decent political parties espoused these ethics.
If the Conservative party wants some credibility, I
believe it has to stop apologizing for having social
conservatives and start promoting these values once
again. These are values any decent society should
treasure. The Conservative Party must stop being
politically correct and instead be politically
principled. For if you stand for nothing you will
fall for anything.
Now, let’s look at some of the issues that most of the
politicians are afraid to take a stand on:

Abortion: There is no excuse today for anyone to be
ignorant on this subject. Abortion kills the child in
the womb. We can see the child on ultra-sound. Doctors
can perform corrective surgery on the child before
birth. Abortionists fail to kill some babies and they
are born alive after abortion but left to die. Yet
most politicians of all political stripes parrot that
banal word “choice.” In fact our “devout Catholic”
prime minister - during the election campaign - to his
shame assailed anyone who dared to question this
“choice” that killed the baby. He in fact was
trumpeting so-called “freedom to choose” at most every
opportunity. These are the words that are used to
disguise the act that dare not speak its real name:
Baby killing. The other party leaders also tried to
outdo each other, declaring their support for this
abominable act of killing by “choice.” Mangled
language is used to mask the carnage of millions
killed by abortion in Canada.

Gay Marriage: Another perversion of and invention of
words. A man “marrying” a man or a woman “marrying” a
woman is an absurdity and those promoting it need
counseling. Marriage, any sane person knows, is between
a man and a woman. Yet, anyone who states this today
is ridiculed, vilified and scorned. How did we reach
this state of nonsense? It certainly was not agreed
upon by the majority of the people. As usual, this
dictum was handed down by non-elected elites called
judges, who then partied with gay activists for same
-sex marriage. This nonsense was also supported by
many politicians as well as promoted by the liberal media and claimed as an “equality right” by a special interest group. Not many politicians have the courage to stand up and say: “This is claptrap.”

Child Pornography: This is another blight on our
society. The politicians cannot pass a decent law
protecting innocent children. Yet, they can pass a law
protecting deviant behavior, and make it a “hate
crime” for anyone who dares to criticize this behavior
as abnormal. They sure have their political priorities
all screwed up. Why is it taking so long for a law on
child pornography, surely we don’t have perverts in
positions of power?

The Charter of Rights and Freedoms: This is the
document that rules our lives. One might call it the
most important document in the country. We are told by
the politicians that, “the people love it.” This is
strange to say the least, for the people never got a
chance to vote on this document that it is claimed, “they love.” Certainly, the ex-lawyers, now called judges, love it. They just “read in” whatever turns them on. Then the politicians tell the people “the court has ruled.” Which begs the question. When did the people vote to be ruled by court jesters who hallucinate and dreamt up words not in The Charter? The fact is: The only place words can mean anything you want them to mean is in “Alice in Wonderland.” Which was fiction. Now Wonderland has become fact. Is The Mad Hatter sitting on the bench? Or do we have a whole family of Mad Hatters sitting on the benches? Has “the independence of the judiciary” gone over the edge and
landed in Wonderland? Oops, I forgot, one dare not
cast aspersions on the lawyers, oops I mean judges or
the “beloved” Charter.

“Wrong rules the land…" (J. G. Holland)

The issues mentioned above are just some of the many
that needs to be addressed if this country is to stop
its descent into moral nihilism. The doors have been
opened, and all that was taboo was given admittance.
Now the irrational are running loose and making the
laws. Instead of justice we have injustice. Instead of
honesty we have absurdity. Instead of decency we have
depravity. Instead of morality we have immorality. Of
course, it is not politically correct to say this. But
if we don’t get a political party into power who are
prepared to stand up for what is right - then this
country of ours is destined to finish up in the gutter
of history. The old words, truth, justice, morality,
honesty and decency, now ridiculed as Social
Conservatism need to be returned to public life.

Bravo Stephen Gray. You are a man after my heart. You said all that I very often think about. And I'm sure many many Canadians also think that way.

Not long ago, I went to talk to the owner of a convenience store near my place. I asked Him why he had so many pornography magazines. I see lots of children in the store and outside. He was insulted, saying he needs those to make a living!

The way our society is heading, it is ready for a leftist takeover and maybe later a Castro type communist takeover. I know many admirers of Che Guevara and Castro in the teaching realm.

I do pray that the Lord will put His mighty hand and let us have a true Canadian Government with Stephen Harper who is a true Canadian.

Well stated Stephen Gray. A lot of people criticized Harper for not rolling out his policies and platform back in the summer or fall. Over time, the wisdom of this strategy has become fully apparent. Many Conservative "supporters" who were highly critical of Harper for waiting to reveal his platform look not-so-smart right now.

Have a little faith in our boy Stevie; he's earned it. We can't out-evil the left but I am convinced we've got all the smart guys and girls on our team - starting with our leader - and we will outsmart them.

Social Conservatives have been a strong base of the Alliance and CPC support and good support it has been. The PCs were broke when the Alliance merged with them, the Liberals are now near bankrupt and the NDP in pretty serious dept. Christians know how to give. They are grassroots people who don’t look for someone else to fund the expression of their beliefs. (I. E. unions, government money) They are faithful and patient; they have historically been the champions of freedom worldwide, people who ever work and wait for a better day. It’s going to be interesting; I’m convinced the Canadian public is not ready to give up “Choice” because political correctness has become the god of this nation, abortion the untouchable subject, too private to discus.

May I also add that I finally hope to have a government that will recognize that Israel is not a terrorist state bent on squashing those poor Palestinian victims!! When I saw Svend over there a few years back I fervently hoped some Palestinian "freedom fighter" aka suicide bomber would sidle by and decide to detonate in his vicinity. The Israelis are the only true democracy in the Middle East, and yet they are treated as if they are the terrorists. Our current foreign policy with regards to Israel is anti-Semitic on a good day.
