Stephen Harper: Cat Lover

I have it on very, very excellent and impeccable authority that Stephen Harper is a cat lover, though not in an inappropriate way. (Needless to say, we at Wonkitties approve.) I happen to be friends with a man who has been really, really, extremely, up close and personal with Harper (though not in a gay way). And this man told me Harper loves cats. And what I do not understand is why Harper's campaign doesn't use this. What better way to win over the single, professional, urban female vote? Our demographic is very important in Toronto, and, I imagine, Vancouver, Montreal and other cities. Picture the television commercial: "Stephen Harper: He loves the kitties!" A montage of pictures of him smiling and laughing as he holds kitties, and poses with kitties, and scratches them between their little ears, could be shown. His popularity with single, urban women would, um, rise, I guarantee.
This same authority has told me that Harper has a wicked weakness for junkfood. Again, I do not understand why Conservative campaign operatives haven't taken full advantage of this. Fat demographic, anyone? That one's getting bigger and bigger, and sadly, not at all in a dirty way.

In the last campaign I remember each leader was surveyed about personal likes and Harper listed AC/DC among his favourites in music. That has GOT to win some of the young and apathetic vote. It also gives him another reason to break out the leather duds, but better ones this time.

I thought we conservatives liked to eat kittens.

If I recall correctly, aren't the Daulton Libs the ones who have a taste for kittens?

Shh. The way their campaign is going I expect the Liberals to photoshop Harper with a goat or a small boy. Don't give them any ideas with all this talk of leather and pussies.

AC/DC? That'll shore up the mullet vote.

AC/DC - we're talking about a rock band right?

Gord, when Harper ran for the Alliance leadership, he used "Thunderstruck" as a theme song for his campaign. In '04 he listed his three favourite songs as follows:

1. ACDC - "Thunderstruck"
2. The Beatles - "I Wanna Hold Your Hand"
3. Johnny Cash - "Folsom Prison Blues"

Martin picked:

1. U2 - "Beautiful Day"
2. BTO - "Taking Care of Business"
3. Nana Mouskouri - "Moondance"

Nana Mouskouri??? We need the RCMP to look into THAT choice, too!

Thunderstruck? Isn't that the one that sounds like Marge Simpson on helium screaming the lyrics?

John: they all sound like that.

But roughly, yes. The distinctive part of that song is the first bit, with the lyric "uhhhhhhhhhhhh (thunder)" repeated several times. Then the Marge-on-helium treatment for the main bit.

Some people say housecats are no good for defence. Seems to me that if you have a wide enough barrel and a high enough muzzle velocity, they do ok. And they can be good for troop morale, with a little mustard.

Ahhhh, yes, that's it. Thanks for the explanation, Ryan.

I was raised on Jimi Hendrix, Cream, Blind Faith, Doors, Animals, Stones, Beatles, BS&T, Pink Floyd, Who, Supertramp, Zeppelin, Sinatra... God, I feel so old!

The dog lover demographic is stronger in the west and rural Canada while the cat lover demographic is higher in eastern Canada and urban centres perhaps the Harper wonks do not want to alienate the dog lover base ( which is totally incompatable with the "cat people" base) by "outing" Harper's cat person orientation....so they choose to keep his image domestic animal companion neutral. ;-)

such is the way of the wonkite

'06 is the year of the dog.

Harper listens to AC/DC? Why doesn't anyone MENTION that? Dress him up in a tatty black AC/DC shirt- does he play guitar?- and film him rocking out at a rock concert, honestly and not like a politician trying to win votes. Youth vote won.

I mean, even I feel better about voting this year because I know this now!

Harper has 3 cats: Cabot, Cartier, and Gypsy (his daughter named the last one).

He is a big Beatles fan and has most of their lyrics memorized. He also likes the Rolling Stones and AC/DC.

I don't know about the junkfood thing but I do know that for fast food his favorite is Harvey's.
