Is voting for "moral" candidates hip?
There's a small group called MY Canada that is trying to get so-con youths to at least vote for morally conservative candidates in the upcoming election.
Although the group is trying to be open to all faiths in their emphasis, I recognize that several of the organizers and advisors are charismatic Christians (from other things that I have seen or read that they do). Not that there's anything wrong with that, of course. :)
You can check out what they are trying to do at their website:

Well, finally I've found some other people that feel like I do. I didn't know I was a SOCON youth, but it sure seems like it now. However, as I posted on the Globe and Mail the other day, I might be socially conservative, but still feel rejected by Blue Tories (especially from the shotgun blogsite), and NDP-Liberal-Greens (who have NO room for any evangelical thought, Without completely compromising our beliefs - which I guess some churches have done =). Anyways, even though it's a small group of young people - it might be the ONLY one that will vote. Why? Because they have a REASON to vote - Loving God (and giving HIM dominion over Canada) and Loving others (reaching out to the same people Jesus reached out too). These youth still have HOPE for changing Canada, wheras most youth just plain don't.
PS- It's amazing how an event that happend in the US 100 years ago (Social Gospel/Evangelical split), has political ramifications in Canada today. Imagine who the SOCON's would vote for if the NDP were led by the Reverend Tommy Douglas (a former Baptist minister with some conviction and morality). Or if the Conservatives took a stronger initiative in feeding the hungry, eliminating poverty, empowering people to find jobs by partnering with faith based social outreach groups.
This is why SOCON's are looking for a party to represent them - because largely, we are being ignored - but there is ONE who will know our heart and judge us for how we vote - if we vote at all!

My parents and then myself and some of my 9 siblings, and their spouses have been voting for the 'moral' candidate for a long time. We make a list of concerns, give all our candidates equal chance to answer, and vote accordingly. Sadly, there sometimes are not any candidates worth voting for, and then the default goes to the least destructive party (morally speaking). This is how citizens, including youth, can live their real lives without the false separation that the secular world promotes for everyone else- beliefs separate from public life. Secularists expect their beliefs to be accepted as 'real' while every other belief is only appropriate in private. Kind of like the Liberals.

I suppose it would be asking too much for youth to make an informed absolutist judgment , and simply vote their conscience. That would be a disaster; no we have to join a group and be coerced and lobbied into doing the right thing. Shades of the German Youth Corp in the 40`s ?
