Adscam: Taking Us On A Musical Ride

To nobody's surprise, the MSM has all but ignored the Fraser Institute report (mentioned here a few days ago) on the extent of the Liberal Party of Canada abuse of the purse of government to their own electoral benefit.

Stephen Taylor has been doing their job for us. Perhaps some enterprising young reporter will take the initiative and steal his work. One can only hope.

Particularly striking were donations made to the Liberal Party of Canada by the RCMP and by the Privy Council Office.

For the "privilege" of protecting the Prime Minister and other members of his campaign team during the 2000 campaign, the RCMP paid the Liberal Party $112,000 for seats accompanying the PM.

The Fraser Institute reports:

"It is an apparent conflict of interest for government agencies, especially those engaged in law enforcement, to pay a governing political party for services rendered during an election. This financial entanglement can impair perceptions of independence and due process that are essential to the proper functioning of those agencies." -- Fraser Institute report, July 2005

One would expect that the taxpayer would pay for the services of the RCMP to protect the Prime Minister. However, it is counter-intuitive that the RCMP (ie. the taxpayer) would pay a private organization (ie. the Liberal party) for work done by the federal law enforcement agency..

The rest.

I thought I'd make the attempt at starting a bit of an internet cat fight.

I just finished making a post over at Comments Please.

Basically, Adam Radwanski makes the opposite argument: that citing the RCMP payments is bogus because they get reimbursed by the government anyway. He uses this example to further the argument of another "torqued" study by the Fraser Institute.

Meow.

'They get reimbursed by the government anyway'...so then the government is making a payment to the Liberal party, which is even worse than the RCMP doing it. The RCMP are looking more and more like a Liberal poodle !

Time to get the Royal Canadian Mounted Gestapo out of Alberta.

Replace them with the Alberta Commonwealth Police, a fully-equipped and empowered police force that is paid for and responsible to the people of Alberta.

If we need external help, we'll call on the FBI - they're much more competent, reliable and objective than the movie-star Mounties.

So, in the end, the government is paying for the RCMP travelling accomodations? Isn't that the way it's supposed to work?

Could someone help me out on this?

Canadian tax money from the RCMP budget is paid to the private Liberal Party of Canada, to do a job ordered by the Government of Canada; is that money laundering or a kickback?
