Horrible anniversary

This week marks the fifth anniversary of the kidnapping of Elian Gonzalez from his Miami family by American agents doing the dirty work of the captain of the Island Gulag. Quid Nimis has a good post about it here looking at the BBC coverage. Say a prayer for Elian's mom Elizabet Brontons, who sacrificed her life for her son's liberty, a life lost in vain thanks to Janet Reno and Bill Clinton.

Sorry but I completely disagree with your politicizing of the Gonzalez situation. The child was taken by his mother from his father. The father had the right to remain and function as his son's parent. It was the relatives who were politicizing the situation.

What you are saying is that a parent who lives in a communist or totalitarian country has no rights of parenthood; that the political situation trumps those rights.

No- what is first and foremost is the individual. Not the politics. A parent should not lose his child because he is deemed to be living in a 'politically incorrect' country.

ET,
That's an insightful response. Amazing how hippocritical 'family values' politicians and pundits looked on this issue. How relativist we can all be when it suits us.
