Bimbo eruption

As Maz2 mentions in an earlier comment,  Pat O'Brien is taking heat for his dumb blonde jokes. The London Liberal MP referred to Ontario caucus chair, Sarmite Bulte, as a "a walking ad for the dumb blond bimbo comment."

O'Brien has since apologized. But getting a lot less attention is the reason O'Brien lost his cool in the first place. After O'Brien, David Kilgour and several other MPs began talking of leaving the Grit caucus (Kilgour quit yesterday), Bulte commented thusly:
"When the ship is sinking, the rats are running."

I'm sure Bulte is hardly a dumb, blonde bimbo—she is a lawyer, after all. But referring to your own party as a "sinking ship"? Not exactly the smartest political statement ever made.

Sarmite (or Marmite, as she is known in our house)Bulte is the MP in our riding, so I have particular interest in her. I don't think she's a bimbo. And she seems above reproach, as I have been unable to find any dirt on her at all. In a way, it's bad because my riding may never be rid of Liberal influence (if it ain't broke, don't fix it), but it's also reassuring to know that there's one Liberal out there who doesn't seem to have any skeletons in her closet. So far.

How about that - Sarmite "Sam" Bulte is my MP, too. I don't know enough about her to confirm/deny the dumb blonde bimbo comment, but one incident sticks in my mind.

At an all-candidates debate last year in Parkdale (that's the BAD part of Parkdale-High Park, for those of you unfamiliar with the West side of Hogtown), Ms. Bulte outdid her NDP, Green and Communist rivals in decibel levels (the Tory candidate was smart enough to skip that so-called "debate", which was divided into sections on affordable housing, improving conditions for new Canadians, defending Charter rights, etc...) with a loud, bombastic defence of abortion rights, and blatant fear-mongering about Stephen Harper's "hidden agenda." Meanwhile, she still managed to clean up among the riding's Eastern European Catholics.

Unless NDPer Peggy Nash runs again and manages to defeat her, Sarmite will be easily returned next time. If the riding consisted only of its affluent Western half, the Tories might stand a chance, but the inclusion of Parkdale negates those hopes. On my way to that aforementioned "debate", I witnessed what appeared to be an open-air drug deal. A buddy of mine arrived about 20 minutes later and said he saw the aftermath of a bank robbery.

Bourque on his site has an anti Pat O'Brien rant from Halifax Live, whatever that is. Has anyone else noticed that Bourque is decidedly moved to the left and is decidedly pro gay marriage. He has three headlines on his site, all anti-Harper and pro gay. But who exactly are his sources?? The first two columns dont look like they are from MSM. Anyone know or care to comment??

Grumpy Young Crank - There's a new man in our riding for the Conservatives, by the name of Steven Duke. I am anxiously awaiting some type of local platform from him, but I've been having a nice email chat with him regarding volunteering and stuff. He can be reached at steveduke@rogers.com
