Bell Canada vs. Israel

Is Israel a country? Is Palestine? Depends on who you ask. If you ask Bell Canada, they'll give you a surprising answer.

Visit their international text messaging web page, and use the scroll-down menu near the bottom. You won't find Israel there -- but you'll find Palestine. Even though the international country code is Israel's -- 972.

Update: Is this just a case, as commenter Donald asks, of Bell not having an agreement with an Israeli cell phone company? Israel is one of the most cell-phone plentiful countries in the world; I'd be surprised. Still: Is Palestine a country?

You are really reaching here. Even a cursory glance shows that they simply don't have a compatible wireless service available in Israel, so they are only listing the Palcell service. They don't have Burundi, Saudi Arabia, or many other countries as well. Perhaps we should draw up conspiracy theories as to why Bell doesn't list them.

They also list Taiwan and Hong Kong as "countries". It appears that Rogers doesn't have an Israeli partner either. Nor does it appear Sprint. It also seems that roaming fees in Israel are very high with wireless connections.

Perhaps Bell lacks a partner for minutes.

It's all part of the Canadian aboriginal conspiracy, I am sure.

Canada does not recognize Israeli sovereignty over any part of Jerusalem. More Liberal bias.

As for Bell: gonif.

Does this matter? At the end of the day, is this important?

Yes it does matter. It is a sign of success of the incremental frog-boiling routine of the loony left.

Or maybe you're just a moron, Joe.

Joe N: "It is a sign of success of the incremental frog-boiling routine of the loony left."

Ben: "Or maybe you're just a moron, Joe."

Of course, the two hypotheses are not mutually exclusive....

It may be a country --not a state, however. There is a legal difference, as Ezra knows. Taiwan and Hong Kong are not states either, but I doubt HK now qualifies as a country.

If you ask Lucien Bouchard, he'll probably say that Palestine is not a real country.
