Norman defeats strawmen
I'm at work at the moment and don't really have time to shadow-box strawmen but finding my name in a subject heading calls for some kind of response.1. No political party that thinks Canada is a "half-assed country" will ever form government in this country;A profound thought indeed, but what in the name of creation does it have to do with me? I've never said such a thing nor supported a party that did. Do you find demolishing strawmen entertaining?
2. Nor will any political party that approves of Cheryl Gallant-type statements on abortion, or that thinks politics is about saving souls, ever be in a position to appoint Supreme Court Justices; andI once posted about a year and a half ago what I thought was an amusing statement by Cheryl's opponent here, but haven't mentioned her or given her much thought since. What are you going on about, Norman?
3. Canada abandoned parliamentary supremacy in 1982, and the Charter of Rights is here to stay,It was when you started manufacturing bizarre stories about abolishing the Charter and the U.S. Bill of Rights that I lost interest and figured you should at least debate those things with people who advocate them rather than pestering me for some kind of response. I commented on the Supreme Court's atrocious gag law decision here. Anyone who bothered to read what I wrote would see that as a criticism of the six justices who ignored the Charter guarantees on free speech. The lower courts, our Chief justice and two others, to their credit, are capable of interpreting word such as these:
2. Everyone has the following fundamental freedoms: b) freedom of thought, belief, opinion and expression, including freedom of the press and other media of communication;Criticizing the other six judges who, in my opinion, simply ignored what the Charter said and substituted their fashionable notions instead is not a call to abolish the Charter. Criticizing a pilot for not following what the regulations say is not a call to abolish aviation in its entirety. In any case, Norman, your strawmen arguments no longer interest me, so I will close with this: Pundits who advocate wife-beating aren't helpful either.

It's been quite a "Spectorcle" at the Shotgun group blog - the past month's incidents best summarized by Bob Tarantino at Let It Bleed. On December 18, Spector posted this piece, entitled "Political Escapism--Further Thoughts", which opened with this: ... [Read More]
