Beslan

It took less than a day for the vultures at The Guardian to point a finger of blame for the butchery at Beslan. The guilty: Russia, America and Israel.

As the drama of Beslan was entering its final hours, George Bush was bidding for re-election on the promise of security to the American people, a security premised on the willingness to use overwhelming military force. It was the same promise that Putin gave to the Russians and Ariel Sharon to the people of Israel. All three have used violence freely in pursuit of electoral reward: Sharon's provocative visit to the Temple of the Mount that triggered the second intifada, Putin's reckless adventurism in re-launching the Chechen war in 1999, and the Bush invasion of Iraq.

But this is only the beginning. The mourning has only begun yet this Guardian comment cannot offer a modicum of blame for the jihadis, men who shot fleeing children in the back. Rather, this lastest massacre is described as "a rational tactic" and an excuse to launch a vicious, inexplicable attack on the government of Nepal.

I give up on the press and the PC crowd.

It is an absolutely unjust for these journalists SINCE 9/11 to blame the west or the westish in regard to Russia. It really show where they are on political spectrum - happy land.

This is like a person being blamed for getting mugged. Reason: you made to much money and should have given your money away.

This type of reporting needs a lot more attention.

What I like best about Robert is the quality of his debating technique.

Hey, I am a cyclist in downtown Toronto. I have already been called worse today.

Robert's comment has nothing to do with the post or the topic. It's the reflex response of a left winger to the news that Bush is 11 points ahead in the polls.

Knowing not what to say, knowing not where to lash out, they simply become unglued.

It's rather entertaining, actually.

Heh.

What annoys me is the reluctance of any of the 'news outlets to use the word 'terrorist' to describe these people. Even in the most value-neutral of strict dictionary definitions they fit the definition. 'Hostage takers' - factually correct, but not the truth.

Ah, finally, in the last paragraph, it all comes together: IT'S ALL THE FAULT OF THE U.S. Here's the Guardian's formula in a nutshell: BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH U.S. IMPERIALISM BLAH BLAH GEORGE BUSH IS EVIL BLAH BLAH EVIL CAPITALISTS BLAH BLAH EVERYTHING THAT GOES WRONG IN THE WORLD IS BECAUSE OF THE U.S.A.

Lazy, irresponsible journalism. par for the course.

The Guardian: Cheerlearders of the Intifidah. Hope they like losing...

JM is right. I have seen these butchers described as rebels, militants and hostage-takers but not as terrorists. If this is not terrorism then nothing is.
