Chilling out

sat_temp1Finding the summer a little cool for your taste? It's not just you, since 1978 satellites have been accurately monitoring the global atmospheric temperatures and summer '04 is turning out to be one of the coolest on record. But chances are you haven't seen much of this graph on the left, which shows no appreciable warming trend at all. The global warming propaganda prefers to lean on the discredited "hockey stick", a graphically pleasing sharp slope created by selectively grafting some surface temperature records onto proxy data extracted from tree rings.hockey2In normal scientific practice if observed behaviour doesn't correspond with the theory the real world is taken to be correct. It will be interesting to see how much public support there is for expensive and useless Kyoto programs while prairie farmers are grappling with losses from mid-August frost.

It fits with the trend now of NOT talking about the hole in the ozone layer, which has been shrinking, and without any coorelation to CFCs. Turns out that it just isn't predictable enough to be politically useful to Greenies.
But 'global warming' is a great one for them - every wet or heat wave give them a platform to lecture the rest of us, a.k.a. the evil doers.

The problem is, that there is no fine-tuning knob on the sun. This should suit the left well. Nothing can ever be done about it, and they can us it to hitch funding to their causes interminably.

Notwithstanding its misidentification, the "hockey stick" is still discredited science.

Dear Resident Troll,

Huh?!

"The hockey stick was a term coined for a chart of temperature variation over the last 1,000 years, which suggested a recent sharp rise in temperature caused by human activities."

And that's from the BBC.

If the HS is really about just gas emissions, why the hoopla? It's like freaking out over a chart for "Number of Light Bulbs Worldwide", which would show a similar spike.

Sorry for taking the bait, but sometimes it's too easy to pass up (plus it appears someone actually believes him).

Avid UN supporter Robert McClelland is wrong. The "hockey stick" graph is from the IPCC and has temperature as the ordinate as does the second chart. The controversy has always been about the misleading UN IPCC surface temperature chart and the data that went into making it. It has been carefully audited and proven to be junk.

Oops. Well, the important thing is to understand the hockey stick's blade is broken.
