Nick Berg Won't Go Away

An phenomenon is currently underway across the blogosphere. As the traditional media continues their attempts to bury the Nick Berg execution under the pile-on of Iraq prison abuse photos, and shift the blame to the Bush administration, the internet is in electronic revolt. Their viewers are seeking alternate sources.

In the past 24 hours, searchers have been swamping the blogosphere. The top ten search requests on Lycos are for "Nick Berg". Some of the servers are having difficulty handling traffic. Backcountry Conservative posted a list of links yesterday to commentary about the murder, and has been hit with a traffic surge exceeding 25,000 unique visitors an hour. His sitemeter seems to be down at the moment - but it's registered nearly a third of a million visitors today alone. Many of the sites are having to shut down comments in order to control the bandwidth.

Kevin Aylward at reports a quarter million visitors today, and it's only half over. He's been hosting the video and linking to other sites who are helping to carry the load.

Glenn Reynolds has a roundup of comments and links on the phenomenon.

Are the mainstream media becoming vestigial organs?

Boy, is that one a groaner!

I hope not. I hope it doesn't go away, because it looks awfully fishy to me, and it is not fair to the American people to be led to believe terrorists beheaded a live human being when it appears this man was already dead, in Abu Ghirab prison, in the hands of non-arabs.

This is scary shit. The prison abuses are scary shit. All of the lies are scary shit.

Down with the Bush administration!

Thank God for Sy Hersch.

Peace.

The one phenomenon no one has caught onto is that I am the king of gettin' all the mispellin' searchers lookin' for the video.

Laura, go back to playing with your Michael Moore blow up doll.

Did you notice how Seymore Hirsch's sources both OUT OF and in government were "anonymous" ?
How he has a near neurotic obsession with a secret platoon somewhere?
Objectively speaking, unless you've drunk the kool-aid, and have a completely anti-american view going into his piece, it is very hard to believe.

There's a pretty funny round up of criticism of Seymore Hirsch' at Instapundit...

Ted Kennedy has very unkind words about him.

It is obvious what is happened. I have known it for some time. And it is big - very big. It is so big that Michael Moore will blow a comestain the size of Newark if he gets his fat fingers on it. And Bush is behind it. Oh, yeah, Bush is behind it. Because he has to be. And if Bush is behind it, you know it has to be big. What is it?

It is the war on terror - something Bill Clinton was too busy raping interns and sticking cigars into womens' pussies to be much bothered about. So what if he fucked a couple of young women each week in the Oval Office and then lied about it? As long as he felt our pain, all was good in the world, even if bin Laden was planning to destroy us. But at least Clinton got his jollies. That is what was important.

But Bush is fighting the war Clinton didn't bother to. So be frightened. Be very very frightened.

I'm hunting wabbits.
