Thomas Walkom has never been known for his insight. After all, he's the guy who managed to write:

"Some refer to George W. Bush as another Hitler. This is a gross exaggeration. He has constructed no death camps and only one concentration camp — at Guantanamo Bay in Cuba."

Today, Thomas is all worked up about how mean people are being to the Khadr family. Good, honest, upstanding Canadians, say Thomas. And, they might well be; as he mentions, they haven't yet been accused of anything more than, oh, rejoicing in the deaths of American citizens, working for the establishment of Islamofascist dictatorships in various locales around the world, sponging off the system... all in all, pretty much what the Chretien/Martinite version of "being Canadian" is really all about.

But there's a much more sinister side to the Khadrs, as Walkom points out (which makes his defense of them somewhat bizarre). They are, in fact... wait for it... reputedly not Liberals. The views of Mama Khadr on vaious matters are virtually identical to those of various Conservative MPs, quoth Walkom. Mama Khadr, known for not liking homosexuals, for her desire to see her sons trained in al Qaeda terrorist camps, and for generally supporting the imposition of a a theocratic dictatorship on the West, would "[i]n normal times ... probably be a Conservative voter". Well, sure, except that her ardent desire to kill all 'dem Jews might make her rather fond of, say, the NDP. But, hey, maybe she could vote for them just in provincial elections.
