Making political engagement easier
Nicholas Packwood noted earlier that "The Dominion Institute and the Canadian Wireless Telecommunications Association work together so people otherwise too lazy to vote can choose our next government with help from a text message." He has a good point and one that would likely be mocked by the editorial board of the Toronto Star and the brainiacs at the CBC and in the inner sanctum of every political party including the Conservatives. Why it's thought to be a virtue to make voting or otherwise getting involved in politics easier is beyond me. Becoming involved in the political process is a privilege and should take hard work and dedication and all those other virtues that make the reward all that much sweeter. To invite the participation of people who would otherwise like to being doing something else but who nonetheless take part in politics because it is easy cannot be good for democracy.
