Growing anti-Canadianism in the US
First, I hesitate to file this item under the "sports" category, but "current affairs" seems a bit much even if it is, in part, a result of Jean Chretien's anti-American policy of sitting on the sidelines during the War for Iraq.
The Calgary Herald reports that World Wresting Entertainment is hhaving most of its Canadian talent announced as now being from American or other international cities. Chris Benoit, for example, is no longer from Alberta but Atlanta. However, "a handful of despised WWE wrestlers are still billed as being from Canada on the assumption that American fans will have an easier time booing them." For example, the "anti-American tag team known as 'La Resistance' -- their shtick includes waving the French flag and blasting the Yanks for their role in the Iraq war -- recently had their announced hometowns changed from Paris to Montreal." Perhaps later this month when they meet, Paul Martin can lobby President Bush for a hate crime law to protect Canadians from growing anti-Canuck sentiment south of the border.

When I lived in NYC, I never told anyone where I came from (Alberta). It made life a lot easier.
Culturally, I found that there were no real differences between the two countries. This is why I condemn the wasting of billions in taxpayers' money on "Canadian culture".
On my last trip to NYC in August 2002, I went to the Empire State Building. You could tell who the Canadians were by who said how much better the CN Tower was! I told them that unlike the CN Tower, the Empire State looks over a great city. They didn't like that much.
