Er, ok...

"Church avoidance leads to gay tolerance"!

Hey, I don't write the headlines at the Calgary Herald, ok?

If it's Tuesday, it must be Bibby:

He said while Canada celebrates the "virtues of harmonious diversity" in virtually all aspects of life, U.S. President George W. Bush "continues to echo early American leaders' conviction their country was founded by God to give leadership to the world... In America, there is an unmistakable emphasis on what is 'true' and what is 'best'."

Tsk! Can't have that.

I get regular, very sincere invitations from my readers (90% of whom are Americans) to move to Texas. These folks are worried for my "nerves" if I stay up here much longer.

Yep.

Cathy:

Can you move to San Antonio or somewhere around Big Bend country?

I would love to have someplace to stay when I visit those places.

Everytime you mention Texas I start thinking about the great BBQ Brisket I had when I was there.

mmmmmmm Brisket.....

I just need to avoid Austin, which they tell me is like Seattle/Portland: very college town lefty hippie. The bbq alone would be worth it.

Have you ever hit their chili festivals, and if so, what did you think? We've heard the Kansas City bbq/chili fests are actually the way to go.

Do you want to join us for RibFest this year, btw? Your tips last year were right on, but it would be fun to get together again.

Kathy - We lived in Dallas for 6 years & loved it. It is amazing how quickly one becomes a Proud Texan and I spend much time here in Toronto (as I did earlier in New York) defending the Lone Star State against her many narrow-minded, intolerant detractors. Having said that, I am so accustomed to having my conservative views seen as contrarian that I kind of missed that when I lived where my views pretty much reflected those of everyone I met. In Canada, conservatives spend much of our time honing our views and sharpening our rhetoric, which must be why so many conservative commentators are Canadian - yourself & the other bloggers, Frum, Steyn, Levant etc. But take heart - I firmly believe time is on our side.

Actually, Kathy, the saying is that "The best part of Texas is Austin, and the worst part of Austin is Texas."

Kathy:

Defintely we should hook up at one of the Ribfests this year. Burlington is the big one but Toronto(Etobicoke) on Canada day is good as well.

I haven't hit a Chili Fest but am looking for some in the GTA if you know of any let me know.

The hotel where we stayed in San Antonio had the most fantastic food including a smoked beef and black bean chili that was out of this world. The Tortilla Soup was stupendous as well.
